Technical Fitting Cinq Sporting instrument cluster?

Do any of you know if the Cinq Sporting instruments can be made to work in a Panda 1000? It's this type of dash:

The dimensions seem similar. I don't think it would fit the housing in the Panda directly, but I'm sure it could be made to fit.

My Panda doesn't have a tacho yet, and no temp gauge either. Any ideas how these could be made to work?

Would the connectors for the indicator/warning lights be the same?

I'm looking to add some extra functionality to the dash, while still looking almost-original.

I doubt the connections are the same, the speedo cable should work without difficulty though. I think blu73 was planning on fitting a Cinq cluster, not sure if he's done any research on it yet?

My Panda has no provision for a tachometer or a water temp gauge, so I expect some creativity will be needed there. Perhaps the warning lights can be adapted.. the connectors could be different, but most of the functions should be the same..

EDIT: I just ordered my instrument cluster. It's from a '97 Cinq Sporting. No idea if it'll work, but it was only 15 euros plus postage so I'm not too fuzzed about it. I'll probably get it somewhere next week. I'll report back once I played around with it for a bit.

This bit is easy. You just need to change your water temp warning light sensor with a UK spec one as all of our pandas have a water temp guage rather than a warning light.

That's good to know! The later Panda 1100s had one fitted as standard I believe. Seems like that's solved then.

The gauge cluster came in the mail today. It was dark already unfortunately, so further progress will have to wait till Monday. It's a very simple unit, so I have good hope it'll work out.

The panda did come with a tachometer run off the speedo cable just the same as the odometer, but VERY rare. All I mean is that presuming the feed comes off the speedo cable for the cinq (don’t see why it wouldn’t) then you are laughing

Yeah thats my ultimate plan, its not that important right now though, not until it is running and mot'd etc.

Looks easy enough though, i got cinq clocks and the plugs for it from the cinqs loom. So making them work is pretty simple, just figuring out what pin does what, labeling them and then cutting the plugs off and connecting the wires to the cinqs plugs. From looking at it i think the speedo cable might have to be taken out and a new hole drilled or there will be some extreme angles going on behind the clocks but thats about the only hard bit bar actualloy making the clocks fit in the dash. I'm not sure how i am gonna do that yet, but sure it won't be that complex.


Other than that, someone said somewhere in this thread about a tacho running off a cable, thats not smoething ive ever seen on any car tbh but i can categorically tell you in a cinq the signal comes from the ecu for the tach, and the ecu uses the crank sensor to know the engine speed. Plenty of stuff on how to make a tach work on a fire engine, mostly depending on the engine, there is a diagram somewhere dragonman made of how to use the twin coil setup to get the right tach figure.

The tach is definitely electronic. It's a pretty simple affair. I'll take the whole thing apart tonight to sort out what's what. I don't want to grab a Cinq wiring loom just for three connectors. I'll improvise my own. Maybe I'll take the lazy route and just solder a few short bits of wire to the connectors and simply use some terminal blocks as connectors.

I'll go ahead and take apart my cluster, take some pics, and trace the connections to see what imput goes where. :slayer:

I just took some time to trace the circuits on the 'circuitboard' on the back of the cluster. I've attached a picture so you guys can follow along.

The connector on the top left side connects to:

Pin 1: C1
Pin 2: L1, C2, L3, L4, L5, C8, L14, L13, L12, L9, L8, L7, C6
Pin 3: L11
Pin 4: C3, L11, L10, C9, C4
Pin 5: L10
Pin 6: L2

The connector on the bottom left side connects to:

Pin 1: L9
Pin 2: L8
Pin 3: L7
Pin 4: C7
Pin 5: L6
Pin 6: C5

The connector on the right hand side connects to:

Pin 1: L15
Pin 2: L15

L1 = Dash light, fuel & water temp gauge
L2 = Warning light - fuel level

L7 = Heated rear window
L8 = Rear foglight
L9 = Direction indicators
L10 = Brake fluid low or handbrake on

L13 = High beam headlights
L14 = Side lights on (numberplate, instrument panel, cigarette lighter lights)
L15 = Injection system malfunction

I don't have the time to disassemble the Panda's dash at the moment, but I found some good pictures of the back of one of these units on eBay.. It's a little trickier not having the real item in front of me, but I'm sure I can figure out what's going on just from the pics.
