Hi
I have a Fiat Barchetta and would like to know if its possible to fit a Coupe 2.0 turbo engine into a Barchetta?

I have not been able to have a good look round a coupe to see if the engine will fit, but the block is the same.

I really doubt it you know. It's such a squeeze in the coupe's sizeable engine bay that Fiat have to lift the engine out to change the cambelt! Also the Barchetta is supposed to be small, light and nimble. Whacking a great hulking 5 cylinder engine in the front will totally ruin the handling.
However on the flip side Anything is possible if you throw money and time at it! and I like the theory behind it! But I really think it's a no-no.

I am pretty certain it will fit. I have heard of people fitting the 20 valve into Punto's so the 16VT should fit quite well in the barchetta as it is not much bigger externally than the 1.8 that is in there to start with. It might be difficult finding space for the turbo bracketry. You might also have to use different drive shafts as the coupe items will probably be too long, unless you could get away with the barchetta items but it won't have visco drive. it would be a seriously quick car when done though I am sure due to it's light weight..

I've seen Punto's fitted with 16V turbo engines and think there may be a 20V turbos as well, and is the Barchetta not based on Punto running gear/chassis  It may then be worth while dropping by the punto section and asking there or on there own dedicated web site punyo sports. something I think as they may be able to help in fitting these units.

FYI gents......
it has been done
try searching for the Stola Dedica or Abarth monotipo
the dedica has the 2.0 4cyl turbo coup lump as does the monotipo (although this has the viscodrive coupling from the 20v gearbox.
they are barchettas in steel although with some tasty mods

Physically there is not much difference in size between the 1.8 and the 2 litre turbo 16V, the weight penalty is also not much. Dont forget you will need to uprate the brakes too, possibly to brembo items from a Coupe. You may also want to uprate the suspension.

Well done, was it a very easy job? And waht sort of power will you be running? is it a standard 16VT or has it been tweaked a bit.. ;)

I see, sorry I thought you meant the engine. Good luck when you come to do it though and keep us posted on how it goes... There is a chance I might do this conversion myself one day.
