I k new it was a bad idea to let my daughter drive my Sergio Tacchini Panda. It's usually the kiss of death for any car she drives. And so it was in this case. The car has just started misbehaving itself. I don't know what the problem is. The AA have been called out 3 times and have come up with different suggestions every time (a) Blocked fuel line, b) Points moving out of alignment c) Needs crypton tune. I took it to a garage today and had the points, plugs and condenser changed, although here did not appear to be anything wrong with the existing items. On picking the car up, I noticed straight away that there was still a lack of power. I took it for a drive up the M4, thinking that it might clear a possible blocked fuel line. No dice. The car would not easily go above 50 mph and seemed to suffer from sluggishness and a lack of acceleration and power. I broke down near Heathrow but managed to restart and stagger back to London. I had to abandon the car about a mile from home because by this stage I could not get more than 5mph out of it. Another thing I noticed on the motorway was that the running temperature was quite high at about 95 deg. Normally it settles down to about 70 deg on long journeys or the fan cuts in in traffic at just over 90 deg. There was also a bit of spitting back from the carb when I tried to restart it. Timing problems? When I went to fetch the car later on after the engine had cooled down, I found it would not start at all. I know there was quite a long discussion about something sinilar on this forum a little while ago but that seemed to end inconclusively. So, if anybody has any suggestions or insights...
