Good day all!

Ok, in these times of recession, I keep hearing that you can get a fantastic bargain on car purchases, but to date, I haven't found any fantastic deals.

I am interested in purchasing a Bravo and it must be a Diesel Sport model, are there any dealers offering pre-registered super deals or any online retailers doing deals? Also, is there a great difference between the 150 Sport and the 120 Sport, it seems the market is flooded with 120 Sports showing between 3 - 10k miles ???

I have done the usual searches, Autotrader, eBay, Motorpoint but I can't really see any great opportunities out there, my budget is £10k, cash deal, am I being optimistic?

Any guidance will be fully appreciated...........................

Cheers.

Try arnoldclark.com

Scottish based but I have seen some good deals there.

Seen a few 150 M-Jet's for £9995 with delivery mileage (varies).

I've bought my previous two cars on pre-reg with delivery mileage (4miles and the other 10miles) and saved over £3500 each on both cars original list price both from Arnold Clark.

Why not get a year old 10k car and save £6k~?

TBH I couldn't tell a massive difference between the 120 Tjet and 150Tjet but I only drove the 120 for 10 minutes and never drove both cars on the same day. Ended up getting a 150Tjet.

Also will you be doing massive mileage (19k per year +)? Read what I wrote in the other thread:

Due to the price difference between petrol and diesel and the ways diesel is made it's only better to get the diesel if you are doing over 18,000 miles a year. Otherwise the 1.4 150Tjet will be a cheaper option.

True, but when I was looking the Mjet was on average £1k more expensive than a Tjet. Lets see 75ppl would make it all equal, what are we now 85ppl max, 10ppl, 50 litre tank (aprox cause it's bloody late) so thats £5 per fill up. So you need 200 fill ups for that to become profitable.

Each fill up doing in an Mjet on average 500 miles, so 200 times 500 = 100,000 miles before you make back that £1k extra paid then the savings can start!

All the above figures are very aprox and it's half 2 so something might be wrong but you get the idea.

It's not cheaper to buy an MJet unless you do crazy mileage, although some people like derv's as they remap better or the way they pull.

Cheers guys!

I do about 10k a year but I want a remap and I know the diesels are more doable..........

Tjets remap well too, you're talking maybe 15-20bhp difference I think between a mapped Tjet and a mapped Mjet, but the Mjet will have cost you minimum £1k more (£possibly 2-3 grand if you're getting new or pre reg) and the engine is heavier so you don't even get all that extra power.

I looked into this all before buying mine (I do 8-10k a year too), I was gonna get a diesel but the extra cost for such a small power gain put me off.

I think 185bhp for a T-Jet 150 is a pretty good remap...So I wouldn't really put the remap on diesel's side because of some 5 or 10 bhp...

Regarding the "better pull"...Well, the stock Tjet accelerates 0-100 in 8,5 sec. (even 8,2 in overboost mode) and the Mjet - for the same amount of time. So I don't see how the diesel would pull notably better and still not get you any further than the TJet. In both cases you have only 8 seconds to get to that speed, but somehow the TJets doesn't pull as much as the MJet? Not really. The same day I drove the TJet, I've tested another modern 150 bhp diesel (not Fiat's though) and the feel of pulling was about the same.

i got my tjet sport 150, with low mileage (less than 3k) for about £10k in october. I had seen this car go on the forcourt at £14k and steadily reduce to £12k and i got them to about £10k, £1500 for my stilo and some extras thrown in (set of mats) and my road tax, and my old road tax from the stilo.

i was seeing same mileage active sport tjet 120 (note active) for £13k.

It took about a month of hunting round dealers and traders, haggling, then buying this took me a weekend of haggling (started fri afternoon, went back twice on sat, before getting a final offer to think about sat night, then sunday afternoon haggling a bit more off before buying it)

it can be done

i drove the diesel 120s and petrol 120s and preferred the 120 petrol. found the diesels a bit rough for my liking, and my thread on here shows how i debated about it.

im happy with my choice now, staying with petrol and having the 150 sport.

The extra 'pull' from the diesel is obviously because it's torquier. Also, having had both petrols and diesels I find diesel engines harder wearing, they really take some ****.

Is there a difference in taxation on the T-Jet 150 and the M-Jet 150?

Thanks for your input guys, it's all helpful.

Also re: pulling oomph 0-60 figures are all well and good but not very real world apart from pulling away from the traffic lights that is and leaving rubber on the tarmac. :D

Far more important IMHO are 35-70 & 50-70 figures for example, I must be honest though that I don't know the Fiat printed figures and how the diesel & petrol 120/150 Bravo's compare but I would have thought that the diesel might be the winner on that score.

My local free paper has Bravos as follows:

"FIAT BRAVO
Dynamic 1.9 Multijet Diesel 120
Save over £5,500 off new price
choice of colours

Only £8,795."

Sounds good.

T-Jet 1.4 150:
60-100 km/h (5. Gang) 9,5 Sek.
80-120 km/h (5. Gang) 10,2 Sek.
80-120 km/h (6. Gang) 12,8 Sek.

Can't find info about M-Jets. If someone can help...I will then post this for the FAQ section.

A lot of these adverts are just to draw you in when you actually enquire the car advertised is sold or the prices are from.............................

You think in these times of hardship these dealers would be bending over backwards to make a sale!

True: but the Dynamic comes fully loaded, so the only extra would be paint - or am I wrong? I'm not considering different wheels or whatever, because for these prices you pretty much have to take what you're given.

just bought a Brand New (8 miles April 08) Bravo 120 diesel Dynamic from Motorpoint Burnley £9299 - bargain!

A few things in this thread.

1. Fuel costs are almost certain to go back up. The middle east isn't getting any more stable, and demand is still increasing - and will increase sharply as we exit this wonderful recession.

2. Diesels hold their value better as a 2nd owner will still benefit from lower tax and higher MPG. The £1000 excess for a diesel is a deposit rather than a cost.

3. 185bhp vs 200bhp is a noticable difference. Especially if you compare the lbft figure.

4. In gear speeds - depending on what speed you start, and in what gear, and to what finishing speed will determine which is fastest. I'm sure we could find speeds between which diesels and petrols are fastest.

5. People should enjoy their Bravo's regardless of petrol or diesel. (y)

Good point Hellcat, I'll see what they say to that and get back to you.

Shame the 0% finance deals got killed off by the credit crunch!
