Fiesta Mk7: Mould/fungus Under Scuttle Panel

I traded in my Grande Punto for a Ford Fiesta mk7 about 3 months ago, unfortunately there is an unpleasant smell from the aircon. I have already used a can of aircon cleaner which did not have any lasting effect. I just noticed yesterday a line of white mould or fungus along the edge of the soundproofing beneath the scuttle panel. Are these 2 things likely to be related, and any ideas why there is mould there?

Material + Moisture + heat = ideal basis for mould

Get it taken out - get it cleaned up and treated
Refit and keep it dry if you can
