If its fiat FIRE engine then there are quite alot of options. You could go for a 1.2 16v from the punto sporting or even just the 1.2 8v from the Punto 60. Even the reaklly new 1.4 16v from the panda 100hp, stilo or grande punto will fit.

The 16v engines will need wiring work and poss fueling work but the mounts from the uno will fit.

With the Punto 60 8v 1.2, it will be a straight swap and should run ok from the uno ecu and wiring/fueling. Obviously it would run better with the correct ECU etc but the Uno one should power it fine.

HOWEVER. If it isnt a FIRE engine then I dont know:)

Is it an MK1 or MK2 uno? If MK2 then its most likely to be a fire.

Sounds like the 1100 FIAT 128 motor, I think the early mk1 Unos called the 1100 engined car the 55. Later it was called the 60. In which case you can use the motor out of an Uno 70, Or Turbo ie, Or the 1.4 and 1.6ltr Tipo motors.

Easy way to tell is to look at the car. If the engine has a big flat cam cover then its the FIRE motor. If the cam cover is on an angle facing forwards then its a 128 motor. If the car is a mk1 (big square headlights and big grill) then its most likely the 128 motor.

Ignore all of this if its a diesel.

In the UK the only the mk1 Uno was offered as a '55' model. It came with the 1116cc ohc engine that as JJHepburn correctly points out is from the same family as the 128 engine.

The 55 model was upgraded to the 60 model in mk1 guise with the same engine (with a twin choke Weber carb in the 'S' models). It had an extra 3bhp I think! NOT to be confused with the mk2 Uno 60 which came with the 1108cc FIRE engine.

If you have a 1116cc Uno you can fit any engine from the same generic family. That includes (obviously!) any other 1116cc engine you can find such as fitted to the 128. The 1299/ 1301 from the mk1 Uno 70/ 128/ X19/ Delta and Strada will also go straight in on the original mounts, as will the 1500 engine from the X19/ Strada/ Regatta and early Lancia Deltas.

Are you just changing engines or going for a power upgrade?

Welcome to the forum by the way

ok its 128 motor not fire if l change the mountings what engine will fit and l want to change the shafts also? l want power upgrade

You want big power? Then swap in a Uno Turbo engine. Easiest and quickest route for more power. You need to find a UT that will donate it's engine and running gear. You need ALL the UT parts to make it safe, otherwise you'll have a fast car that won't stop and won't go round corners...

Or convert the engine, gearbox, exhaust and engine loom to Uno FIRE spec and you can swap in the bigger FIRE 1242 engine. Convert to fuel injection and you can fit the MPI Punto 1242 75bhp engine, the 16v 1242 engine and if you've got deep pockets a 1400 FIRE 16v.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money then simply swap in a 1500 Fiat/ Lancia engine or 1600 Tipo engine as mentioned above.

ok thanks if l understand l can fit regata engine tipo punto 60 and fiat uno turbo and panda

no its 1108cc fiat uno 55 will l replace it ? thanks

Hang on, you said earlier:

The 1108cc Uno was only available as a mk2 (1989 - 94 in the UK) and was badged as a Uno 60 model. The Uno 55 was only available as a mk1 (1983 - 1989) and came with the 1116cc 128 derived ohc engine.

The 1.6 engine is a straight swap with the 1116cc engine but NOT with the 1108cc FIRE engine.

The FIRE engine looks like this (with air filter replaced by a K&N in this picture):

Uno_K_N.JPG

If your engine looks like that then it's a FIRE. If it doesn't it's most probably the older 1116cc 128 engine.

What year is your Uno? And can you 100% confirm what the engine size is?

its not fire its 1108cc 128 1985 if the tipo doesnt swap which engine swap in my fiat?

Right, for a bit of clarity:

128 based 1100 engine = 1116cc
FIRE based 1100 engine = 1108cc

If yours is a 1985 model Fiat Uno I can guarantee you that it is not an 1108cc FIRE. The reason being is that the 1108cc version of the FIRE wasn't released until 1989 and only came with the mk2 Uno. The mk1 Uno only ever had the 999cc FIRE and was badged a 45. With yours being a 1985 Uno and badged a Uno 55 it will have the 1116cc 128 derived ohc engine.

In which case the 1.6 Tipo engine will be a straight swap onto your existing mountings and gearbox.

Hello
I have got a fiat uno 45 fire, does any one know what engines i could swap to give my uno MORE POWER!
Thanks:)

first of all, well done for posting on a thread over two years old.....secondly, a little research back through the section, which you no doubt did to find this old thread, would have revealed a treasure trove of threads devoted to exactly this kind of thing, have look, use the search function, and you might surprise yourself
