Hi,

Could anyone tell me what the small rubber hose from the back of the carb (connected near the vacuum advance and anti-flood hoses) to the air box (connects near the crankcase breather) is for?

Also, I can suck air through my anti-flood vacuum diapfragm. Is this bad?

The engine idles badly when warm and not atall when cold.

Hi there,

Is it a 999CC FIRE Carb engine?

If so, a quick fix is to increase the idle speed. There is a small hexagonal bolt on the carb, turning clockwise (i think) increases the idle speed.

My car used to idle badly until I adjusted the ignition timing, so you might to try that when you can.

Regards,

Martin

Fix It Again Tony!

Don't know about that hose.

Almost certain that the vacuum draw-down diaphragm should be gas tight.

Does anyone know if these are available in a repair kit??

They are not available - at least in my repair kit.

It is spot welded to the choke bracket and the casing is pressed together so the diaphragm is not accessible.

Could I simply disconnect it, plug the hole and risk flooding it every so often?

I'm not sure.

As I recall it the vacuum keeps the airway open so it doesn't flood, and when the engine slows down and looses vacuum the mixture is enriched.

Perhaps you need to jam the drawdown bit in its running position, and have to juggle the choke even more when cold...

We really need somebody here who knows more about carbs than I do.:):I
