Question i have is the 1.3 multijet diesel used in the Fiat, the same as the ones used in Vauxhall cars, badged as CDTi, I am trying to find a replacement for my Fiat Idea which is becomming impossible, looking at Google searches it states it's the same engine, does anyone know if they are identical so that i could in effect bvuy a Vauxhall engine and use it, are there any differences in the gearbox mounts etc, Please somebody know.....:)
Steve

the engine block's are the same but some of the components are different, have you tried searching for the 1.3 multijet on a grande punto, panda or doblo, yes the engine and gearbox mounts are different and im not too sure off the top of my head if the block has the threaded hgoles for the fiat mounts,

Yes i have tried various adds for a replacement engine plus all the Fiat models and just about every breaker in the UK, cheapest price so far about £1500, hence why i ask if a vauxhall CDTi can be used, there are loads at half of the price. if its a question of externals being different, could i not use what i have as it is only the engine that is broke,

i see, yes the blocks should be the same the timing gets set up different when locking the bottom end due to the gearbox being different but the cams are the same so as long as you use your original manifolds, flywheel, clutch, mounts ect, the sump might be different, but as long as the mounting holes are on the block for your mounts you should be ok with the vauxhall engine
