General Fiat 500 Nuova 1959

Hi guys,

I want to buy a Fiat 500 Nuova of 1959 which I found in a rather good condition. Attached you can see some photos. The current owner is selling it as is for 12'000 euro! As you can see, I will have to assemble it myself but all parts are available and for this price I wouldn't mind.

Since I know basic stuff about 500s, I want your opinion on the followings:
- What do you think about the price? (from a small survey I did, 500s before 1960 can be sold for even 30'000 euro if they are at a good condition and all parts are original)
- How do you find the condition of the car?
- Is there something in the photos that you find strange or not original?
- Which parts need some improvement?

The passenger floorpan is repaired with a homemade patch but the rrst looks lovely

Engine is not original it looks like a 650cc engine. The seat covers, rims & gearshift knob are not original as well.

It’s got a 650 engine in it from a 126 so it is far from original. Other than that it looks in good condition but it won’t reach the top prices that you quote. I would say the asking price would probably be about right for a car all ready completed but maybe a little high considering you have got to put work in.

I assume that the gearbox is synchronized because of the engine. I assume Its not the original. A lot of people change the engine & gearbox. If you have the synchronized gearbox it is easier to change gears.

Cancel that it! Just had a look at the interior picture. It looks like some dodgy repair work on the floor pan as Andrew pointed out. They couldn’t be bothered to take the front part of the heater tunnel out, it looks like it has been sprayed in situ. Gear knob arghhh. It could be one of those refurbs where a nice shiny paint job is hiding some hidden problems? Also I wonder what’s hiding behind that rubber mat? Seems a bit odd to take a picture with just one bit of rubber mat in situ or am I being a bit cynical?

I wouldnt say it was worth any where near the asking price having looked at the other pictures. I probably should have looked at all of them first!

The 59 brake lights should be like the 1st photo.
2nd photo shows how the 59 front & side indicator should look like.
The gas tank looks like the 3rd photo with vent pipe on the side.
The 59 did not have the ashtray yet.
Your Fiat looks like the Fiat 500 D model which was made from 60-65
