Hi New to this , my daughter has a 2012 fiat 500 Lounge with a chrome tail pipe. The tail pipe(trim) vibrates and rattles. No issues with exhaust. Anyone else have this issue and how do I solve this issue?
700000. Wow, that's a very high mileage for a 2012 car!
Get underneath and check if the chrome trim is a separate part i.e. is fitted onto the exhaust pipe. If so, it might be held on by a clamp or some bolts/screws - one of the genuine Fiat chrome exhaust pipe trims I looked at, had 3 grub screws attaching it to the underlying standard exhaust pipe. (grub screws are a type of bolt without a head, they have a hexagonal hole into which you insert a suitably sized Allen Key in order to tighten them). Try tightening any fittings. If the screws have run out of adjustment, you might have to loosen them and insert some metal packing, then retighten.
To locate where the rattle is coming from, try banging the silencer with the side of your fist or use a rubber mallet to tap the exhaust silencer box (it would be advisable to hit the end flange only with the mallet to avoid causing any damage). If the chrome trim is secure but the rattle is coming from inside the silencer box, it might have to be renewed. If you're still unsure whether it's the exhaust silencer or the chrome trim that is causing the rattle, you could remove the chrome trim and see if the noise then disappears.
