I have an issue with a 2015 Fiat Punto Easy 1.2.

I have recently had the sump replaced along with the front and rear part of the exhaust system.

The exhaust is different to the original so assume it is an aftermarket part.

In first gear when setting off I hear a rattle/raspy sound. On changing gears up to 3rd I get a quick rattle/rasp as I lift the clutch up.

The noise appears to be coming from under the car. There's is also sometimes a clunk from under the car on gear change.

At speeds above 30 there is no noise. It is only below 30 and mostly in first to third gear so hear it a lot in stop/go traffic.

The noise is intermittent. When the car is cold in the morning it doesn't happen but when it gets up to operating temperature it does but not always.

No dashboard lights and performance of the engine doesn't seem impacted. Fuel economy is good.

Garage I had the work done said there is no problem and couldn't detect any noise but I suspect they took it out with a cold engine. Took it to Kwik Fit for them to check the exhaust and he said there were no leaks or loose parts but thought the back box was a bit noisy and still bedding in

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

It does sound like part of the heat shield is loose. It's a very common problem and won't impact on the car, other than a rattle noise.

The gearbox change clunk may be happening because you aren't depressing the clutch for long enough. Or it may be something else.

Sounds like a Kwik Fit reply, “back box is still bedding in” 😆 Could it be a heat shield rattling underneath?
Thanks a heat shield was my first thought.

I have got it going back to the garage in January as I am not happy with the work on the Sump it is leaking a little. I will ask them to look at the heat shields then to make sure they are all good.

Thanks, not so worried about the gear box clunk and it may always have been there anyway. I am only really noticing it now as I have the radio off recently trying to work out where the rattle was coming from...with the radio on I don't hear it at all.
