Tuning Engine power

I have a 1971 fiat 850 sport spider and I want it to make more power, originally I wanted to possibly engine swap it, but now I’m not sure. Would boosting it be a good idea? Or would there be a better option to get more power out of the car?

My mum and dad had a little Fiat camper van that was the same, but they went all over europe in that old thing and it mostly got where it was going..

If you can get hold of this it shows things others have done. ABarth started porting and polishing these little engines and got some big increases on power. Some have also changed carburation as well. You do need a specialist to do the porting but I am pretty sure it would give you the improvement you are after. I love this book I have to say.
