Hi to all the fellow Cinq/Sei owners. Car of nine years recently went in for MOT this year and came back with an utterly shocking emissions failure. Granted I was a little slapdash this year with two primary school girls and a new puppy to contend with, not to mention work etc so I didn’t give the car it’s usual service as everything seemed to be working fine and I thought that it would be ready.
So in it went and out it came and low and behold “Exhaust emissions outside manufacturers limits”, with no other failures. So I asked for a print out, didn’t get one, and was told it was just blowing a lot of crap out the back and to be fair, the tailpipe did look a little sooty for a little while now however had no running problems. So I took it home and gave it a good service, oil and filters, cleaned out breather, air filter, checked for vacuum and exhaust leaks, a set of new NGK plugs and took it back. Made very little difference emissions wise, although pulled better, old plugs were a little black and sooty but no oil on them, had been changed a few years back. Although this time round I had a printout of said emissions (see attached).
I again took her home and had a look on here for some answers for hours, found that it could be the coolant temp sensor so I swapped it out and also reluctantly bought a new cat for good measure, fitted it the other morning at the crack of dawn and later that day drove it on a nice italian tune up, took it back for another test, nice and hot, but no, another fail.
The car itself has a few little mods. A Mckritch Chip, a 40mm tricker throttle body and a Sportex Exhaust. Last year I had to replace the downpipe due to a broken flexi and no matter how much brute force I used on the car and in a vice, I could not remove the old lambda so I changed that too. Could it be a dodgy lambda as it wasn’t retested on emissions last year, just that the downpipe had been replaced and thus no longer leaking? No lights on the dash, no apparent misfiring and no performance issues, it’s strange.
Please help me guys because I feel proper miserable, my 10 day retest is up today and my girls hate a grumpy dad and that includes the wife and as we all do, I love my Sei. Pints of blood I’m giving.
Thanks for reading, Gav.
