Electric Handbrakes

Electric Handbrakes

My guess would be NO as the forces the electric motors produce are not enough to break the rear end free, unless of course its already on its way past your front wheels. Even if you managed to get the motors to lock up the rear end there would be no "feel" to the brake so producing a useable handbrake turn would be next to impossible.

When travelling (I think all electronic brakes do this) if over like 3-5MPH then applying the handbrake brakes all 4 wheels normally before locking just the rears. So it's have the same effect as just slamming on

Technically yes, but you'd need to override the vehicles safety systems which would no doubt prevent it from being used above a certain speed or if the vehicle is even moving at all.

The handbrake or parking brake is also classed as the emergency or secondary braking system of a vehicle. I think it has to be operable at all times whether the vehicle is moving or not.

A bit off track maybe, but If you took a driving test in a car with an electric handbrake, like a Passat which has a device that will not allow the car to roll back. Wouldn't that be a huge advantage, or would it result in only being qualified to drive an auto?

youd still get a manual liscense from it :p and yeah it would give give you major advantage. not sure if there is a rule tho saying cars have to have a manual handbrake
