Technical ECU Testing Suggestions Please

Hi all.

My Ducato X250 won't start as the Engine Control Unit has stopped communicating so I think an ECU test and repair is needed.

When the ignition is turned on the VPS warning light comes on continuously (car/padlock symbol) and the cruise control light is on even though the van doesn't have cruise control. Both keys have been tried and the doors will lock/unlock with the remote key fob. My code reader can't link to the ECU but it previously did and can still link to my car's ECU. All fuses are OK, the battery is good and the engine will turn over but not fire.

The problem started after I disconnected the ECU plugs to gain access to the ABS pump (which has been repaired by ECU Testing Ltd) and water got into the ECU electrical socket. Wish I'd taken the nearside headlight out instead!

I sent the ECU to ECU Testing Ltd for a diagnostic check but they can't test it as it has firmware that they haven't previously worked with. ECU part number is 55246596 and is not one that they support.

Does anyone know of someone good at testing ECUs or suggest a better alternative for me to get back on the road as soon as the covid crisis is over?

I've checked with 10 different ECU repair companies. 2 were not working due to the Covid crisis, 1 didn't respond on the other 7 don't repaair the Marelli 55246596 ECU as there's no call for it.

Pin 50 of ECU connector B seems to be at fault.

Luckily CarElectronicsUK.com have said they can test and repair the Marelli ECU, thanks goodness! £225.

before you send it off check earth wire on ecu has not broken.

Thanks. The Marelli ECU is earthed through Connector B and I carried out continuity checks on the appropriate wires from the connector to the engine compartment fusebox and from there to earth. All was OK so the ECU has been sent off.

ECU refitted after repair and it's working fine . The cost was £220 inc VAT plus for return £10 postage.

Out of a list of 10 different ECU repair companies only one said they could test the Marelli ECU in my Ducato. Either there wasn't enough Marelli ECUs going wrong to justify developing a 'test harness' or the ECU case was too difficult to work with.
