under the bonnet....
Hello,

I have a MK2 Punto as you all know :D and I'm considering an ECU remap (if it's possible on my car) it's a 8v 1.2 and no I'm not looking for extreme results from a 1.2 :p but a few more horses under the bonnet would be nice ;)

So if anyone could tell me is it worth it and what sort of additional HP am I looking at? I've got an induction kit fitted but I'm guessing that doesn't add any additional HP or does it? Besides I'd be happy with at least an extra 10-20 more horses...

If you haven't read my thread I have the Ford Focus Induction Kit!

So basically all I want to know is it worth getting the ECU remapped? How much more horses will I gain, lastly what sort of price am I looking at?

Thanks in advance!

It depends what your after, If your just looking for more BHP then it's probably not worth it but if you want more power down end and better response it is worth it.

Gains would be around 5-10bhp.

Price varies from 150 to 250ish

Doing an engine remap (at stock) will gain you a few more bhp (5 to 10). So as a stock car, I would probably not bother. The benifit of the remap comes when you add performance modifications to the car, for example the Focus Induction Kit you have may add 1 or 2 bhp, with a remap this would probably become 3 or 4. Upgrading the camshaft to an 866 camshaft normally gains about 6 or 7, remap would make this a few more.

So what I'm saying, a stock remap would give you barely anything the be proud of. A remap on a car with performance modifications could easily draw another 20 bhp out of the engine by using those modifications and pushing them to their full potential.

I'm not anywhere near an expert in cars, but this seems to be how it works from all of the modification threads I have read... If you're going to do a remap and you plan to add some more mods then wait until their on the car to remap!! :)

waste of time and money... with ecu remaped and intake you will have 68hp with 100octane fuel...
if you want more you should get cams from punto 8v 75 mk1 and then you ll be around 80hp.....
but if you planning for cams colombo barianni are cheap for your car... with around 50e more than mk1 cams you can get colombo
my programmer with stage 2 colombo (it has 6 stages for your punto) mk1 exhaust outake manifold, intake and cat back its about 90-92p :):)

get a 16v as me and you can easyly have 95hp with mk1 cams and with valvetrain you can get 105-110hp
and much more power than 8v

I dont know of anyone that has remapped a 1.2 8v and also it cant be done through the OBDII

there is probably a reason for this

i do believe it can
however its not worth doing
this is a basic 8 valve engine made for economy
im not into mapping but i do know longer squirts of fuel will give slightly more power especially if used with a longer duration inlet cam and shorter duration exhaust cam
however unless lots of other things were done as kostas013 keeps saying on different threads then its like chucking money in the wind

the mk2 8v is remapping as the 16v... same way...
here in greece i have a friend with 8v and induction kit, bigger throttle, colombo barriani cams 2stage, outlet manifold from mk1 75, better catalyst, bigger pipes (42mm in and 45mm out diametre its from mk2 16v pipes, 39mm and 42 is 8v's exhausts pipes), and cat back, better ignition leads and iridium sparks, with ecu remapped and aggressive tuning with 100 octane fuel it gives almost 95 hp... its very good but it costs a lot
compare to mine back then i haven't the ram air filter i had a free filter, mk1 cams and remapped ecu i was about 92-93 hp so it was intresting to do a test ;)

when we started he was in front but when i got to high revs in1st gear we was the same again... in 2nd gear i was in front, same as in 3rd gear i was one and a half car in front. it is much if you compare the costs of mods to the cars, and the cams... colombo bariani the 8v and standard fiat my 16v from mk1, my exhaust was standard, i didnt have good induction kit or bigger throttle and non iridium sparks to give some advance to the ecu... now its not worth even try ;)

its better to have a 16v motor on your car or better if you want more a sporting 1,4 and if you want more again the HGT motor ;)
and for the lovers of mods t jet motor ;)
