Hi

One of my neighbours has had his car clamped by the DVLA today for having no road tax.

It was a doner car that he paid £100 for. so he isnt really bothered if they take it.

The car was declared scrapped as he bought it to scrap to it isnt connected to him.

Is he allowed to strip what he wants off it?

Also what if a scrap dealer happens to be driving by!?! as the car "disappears"

the fine will still stand....

it's like the people who have their car lifted for no insurance..."crush it see if i care"...no problem, that'll be £25 a day storage for 2 weeks, plus the fine, oh....and the cost of the crush too....suddenly they are not so blase....

Don't they normally put a big sticker on the windscreen to show people that the car had been clamped as its got no tax - as a deterant to others. But, i'm sure ive seen them sometimes with 'Do not interfere with this vehicle' stickers on. Or is that police ones?

*Edit* just noticed it had been reported scrapped.

Those are cars taht are seized for insurance...

So really he can strip parts off and let local scrap dealers "drive by"

I've cut a clamp off with an angle grinder before. Would do it again too. Feels so good.

Even better I later found out it was an illegal operation (operating without a Clamping license). So managed to claim back the money for the Tool Hire! :D.

If I were him i'd just do the same. I got a bulls*** fine from them alledging I didn't SORN the Alfa I just ignored them as my time is too precious to waste on them idiots. Couple of court threats later and here I am, nothing's happened.

I've always wanted to do the crazy thing of letting some company camp my car, but then return in a tow truck and tow away my own vehicle with their clamp on.

Were would one stand there I wonder :p

Then be charged with theft of clamp - and end up financially worse off than ever before - and if you are a normally decent, upstanding citizen who pays all his taxes etc etc then you'll probably also end up serving more years than a child killer.
Your cars will be siezed and crushed and all your assets will be confiscated as proceeds of a most heinous crime.

Alternatively, if you are the type of citizen who drives untaxed, uninsured cars, never worked a day in your life, living off benefits, often driving off without paying for fuel, had a dozen asbos by the time you could walk etc etc.

You'd be let off with a caution from a PCSO

One idea I had was to buy four wheel clamps and fit them to your car when you park. Fiddly, but ensures it can't be clamped (y)

Or maybe attach heavy steel spikes to the wheels a'la Jeremy Clarkson's Police Coupe(bodicea?)-style.

Non of which deters them from chucking webbing under the car so it can be lifted onto a transporter.
