Hope someone can help
On my 130 Multijet Motorhome I have a problem with the rear fog light, the light is on all the time!. Without the ignition on or any other lights the light remains lit, the only way to turn it off is to remove the bulb or the fuse, the fuse is also used by the dashboard display.

I have checked as far as possible all the wiring loom and connectors which all seem OK.

Just wondered if anyone out there could point me in the right direction, or recommend a fiat auto electrician in the east Leeds area.

Regards

Do you have a towbar. If so I would check the connections for it as some are wired to provide 12v to a caravan. This is on pin 2 of the socket and you may have a loose wire or water ingress into the connections.

Thank you for your reply Taffybloke ,
I do not have a tow bar fitted but thanks for your suggestion.

Does anyone have any experience with the body computer (I think that is what it is called) and could this be sending a live feed to the rear fog light.

What's getting me is that there are a lot of things need to be on for the fog light to operate, headlights, ignition etc.

Thanks in advance for any input.

It is likely that the fog light is controlled by the body computer you need to look at the wiring diagrams for your van to be sure. There may be a relay in circuit, have you tried pulling the relays one at a time to see if the light goes out?
If you have Multiecuscan it will tell you if the body computer has told the light to come on. If it hasn't you either have a faulty ECU, stuck relay or some kind of wiring short (unlikely if it stays on with the ignition off).
A quick n dirty fix would be to put a switch (and warning light) in series with the feed from the body ECU to the light.
I'd look at it for you but I'm in Cambridge.

Those are inputs to the body computer to enable the feed to the lamp. The body computer could have a fault with the 'internal switch' so that it is made all the time without any of the inputs being enabled. I have tried to attach the wiring diagram for the two fog lamps located in the rear light clusters. They show a direct connection to the body computer.

Having just got MultiECUscan working on my laptop I am (for the moment) a wild enthusiast.

What year is your motor home?

If it is post 2003 (roughly) a straightforward ODB II interface should allow you to read all the codes. Saves a lot of guesswork.

Thank you for your reply, and your offer to have a look, but as you say Cambridge is a bit far!:)
I agree with your suggestions and suspect it is the computer, am looking at multiecuscan seems the way to go.

Thanks for the diagram, will look at it tomorrow

Thank you for the information on multiecuscan will save me a lot of time, Motorhome is 2008 so the interface you suggest is the one to get. Did you find the software easy to use, am quite computer literate so installation should not be a problem.

Once again thank you all for your help

Will update once I have had worked on the new information.

Hi,
Multiecuscan is pretty intuitive. You can load the software and try it without paying the registration fee. You don't even need an interface to play. If you click simulate instead of connect it will provide dummy data so you can play in the comfort of your home. www.multiecuscan.net

I've bought interfaces from two UK ebay sellers without issues. Item No. 271275445368 should do your needs and 161715574389 has a full set of 16 pin adaptors. Add a fiat 3 pin adaptor (of make your own) for early cars and it will do any Fiat.

Robert G8RPI.

Just to add that you won't need the 3 pin adapter for yours. It should be ODB II compliant with a connector somewhere near the steering column.

Sample diagnostics in my post near yours; four screen shots.

Very easy to set up and use.

Thanks to you all.

Have ordered the interface and downloaded the software, installed it on my laptop and had a play with the simulation, very good so far.

Will pull the Motorhome out this morning and check the location of the socket. As soon as I get the interface will have a go.

Will update as soon as I have anything to add.

Hi all

just got my OBD2 interface, got the one on Ebay that Robert G8RPI suggested, seem to have a problem installing it, drivers seemed to install OK but it is not recognized in the multiecuscan software, can you tell me what lights are lit on your module when it is connected to the laptop but not connected to the vehicle, this might help me see if the drivers are installed correctly. All I have is one red light on the OBD tx and no others although all the others flicker on as if testing when I plug the interface into the USB port.

might help me diagnose why its not working.

Update.

ran the test/scan option in the Multiecuscan settings software and it picked up the interface on Com4, just a message re the Latency being too high but that is OK now.

plug it into my vehicle and did the following.

I have used scan in the Multiecuscan software and it has picked up all the details of my motor, engine body computer dashboard etc, but when I try to connect I get the message ELM327 cannot connect to ecu check serial ports settings etc.

any advice?

you MAY need a coloured adaptor cable to read the body computer - often it's just the engine that requires a simple ELM cable.

other components need different wiring set-ups , ABS , Airbag, etc

does it connect to engine ok ? - if you select Engine..

Hi,
For the facelift model Ducato 250 3.0 you need the A3 "Yellow" adaptor cable toconnect to the body computer.
This cable swaps pin 6 (i/f) to pin 1 (van) and pin 14 to pin 9 (and maintains the connections on 4, 5 & 16)
On my interface I fitted a subminature double pole changeover switch into the plug hosing to do this.

No Charlie, I get the same message when trying to connect to the engine

It does ask for the yellow connector initially.

Hi all

the information on my Ducato indicates that the engine controller is a Bosch which according to the Multiecuscan software is not the facelift model, the controller on the 2.3 facelift Ducato is a Marelli.

Hi all

just an update, I have managed to get connected to the vehicle, don't know how but just connected all back up and was able to connect.

the only thing I can connect to is the CAN info and the ABS, this gives me a lot of things that are present or not, but nothing I can work with, no fault codes, I cannot connect to the Body Computer which means I cannot see or do anything relating to the Rear Fog Light.

Is this correct, do I need the full version to access the body computer information.

regards

Mike
