Hi
I have a Ducato 2.3 130 2007 new shape. Only starts on easy start and will idle all day. Soon as you increase revs it cuts out, but some times allows you to go to max revs for a bit and cuts out. Has had new fuel pump, tried blocking egr valve. Has had new fuel filter. Codes that came up on cheap plug in computer where "Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance" and "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit" Has anyone got any ideas? Many Thanks

There also is the throttle valve that causes a lot of problems that show up as EGR error codes....
Does the ECU warning light stay on?

Thanks for your reply's
Yes the engine light stays on, on the dash.
I have looked at the EGR unit, its looks clean and I can just about move the valve with my thumb. Im not really sure what to look for on the EGR valve?

Yes, its a vacuum EGR. If I push the vacuum part with my thumb, which feels spring loaded I can move it back and forth.

Do you think it could be air flow meter?, because if you unplug the electrical connection too it while running, it makes no difference.

When the engine cuts out, its a straight kill, no spluttering about. And then you would need easy start to get it running again and it will idle smooth and as soon as you rev engine up it cut out again.

There must be some misunderstanding here. The EGR valve is vacuum operated, located in an awkward position at the back of the engine. Removal is pretty difficult because you have to work from under the car to remove some bolts, then from above to take it out. The valve is kept closed with a spring and pulled open by a vacuum pot. The vacuum is modulated by a sealed plastic electric valve dangling above the engine in the middle.

What part can you move with your thumb?

Yes, I hope it is the egr valve. I got it all out from above the engine though (was difficult). It has 2x manifolds at a right angle to each other. I was talking about opening the spring loaded valve with my thumb by pushing on it (is quite stiff).

OK, the EGR valve seems to work!
The other valve involved in EGR troubles is located between the engine and the radiator. That one has a small geared electric motor. It closed when you stop the engine, opens when starting and partly closes under conditions requiring EGR. Deposits in the manifold keep it from opening; if the condition persists the little motor may burn out.

It might be prudent to go easy on the EASYSTART. My motor is at the dealers at the moment having the timing reset after the belt managed to jump by one tooth. Been told it probably happened when the recovery company started it with Easystart the day before.
