Hi can someone please help me when I close and open my drivers door I get a really loud clicking/clonking noise at about 3 stages in each motion.

I think the check strap needs tightening because I can turn the nut with my fingers.

The problem I've got is that on the top if the round bolt/screw there is no way of holding it whilst I tighten the nut. There are no torx holes.

Does anyone have any idea how I can tighten it. I have tried some pliers but it keeps turning as I can't get a good grip on it.

Thanks my car is a 51 plate mk2.

If the pin is sitting down fully and there is no more than 1 or 2 mm play between it and the check strap it's unlikely that tightening it will get rid of the noise. More likely is that the bit inside the door is dry or breaking up. Try putting some grease on the arm and work it inside the door for starters.

My drivers click badly - itll break soon
The passenger didnt click that badly but that has actually snapped inside the door.... on the todo list lol

It clicking its ready for replacing is pretty much the rule

You can sometimes you can just grip the top with pliers or mole grips just to try and tighten it up

My drivers door was the same, I just took pin out. Although there is nothing there to "hold" the door in place when it's open, small sacrifice for not waking up an entire street when I start work at 4am :)

I have the same problem, mine is caused by the bolt coming off the flat pin that attaches it to the actual car it's self

you will be sorry if wind catches the door and rips it out of your hand

Hi
I bought a Punto 06 about 3 weeks ago and from the get go we had the same problem with the Door Strap, embarrassing racket each time we opened the door

The Dealer guy said it needed oiling so we did that but nothing so dealer guy is a muppet

However, this afternoon my worst half was sorting a couple of bits on the car and he saw that the nuts on the strap were loose. He tightened what he could by hand and then used an 'Allen Key'(in the centre) of the bolt to finish it off VOILA, NO RACKET!!!

So problem solved but will be keeping the key in the car in case it comes loose again!

I'm a new owner and this is my first reply and I hope it helps

It's nice to give help as well as receive it!! Great Forum, lots of help and advice!!
