Was asked this question on another site and has made me wonder..

I own a '98 Seicento Sporting Abarth. Obviously i know the Abarth comes with the spoiler, side skirts, Abarth Alloys and Abarth interior. But does it link to a performance gain rather than trim-level?

I've heard that the Abarth has a multi-point injection engine whereas the sporting has a single-point injection. Is this true?

Or is it just the facelift models that are multi point??

Yeah, its just the face lift ones that are MPi. The Schuey has a slightly different gearing (to take into account the bigger wheels), but i dont think this happened on the pre facelift abarth...

The earlier SPi Abarths are not really stand alone models, but a Sporting with extras, the same as a Cinq Abarth, only taken a little further. So the body kit, the interior well I say interior but really it accounts to headrests with badge, but not always the wheels. My mate bought a one owner from new 98 Sei Abarth with only 20K on the clock, which had the body kit, lovely Abarth sill protectors, the interior, the body kit, yet still had 13" sporting wheels. Included in the history was the original bill of sale for the car from Fiat and it clearly says its a Sporting with a list of optional Abarth extras. Many dealers would have specified the cars with the extras at new to make them more appealing to buyers and added a premium, or used as demonstrators as demo cars normally have high spec list to make them desirable to prospective test drivers.

Whereas the later MPi Abarths are stand alone models as they along with the Shumi model have a different gearbox with shorter final drive to ensure the performance is not dented by the larger wheels, therefore mechanically its a different car as well. The MPi's of course have the body kit, this time with Abarth on the front bumper mesh, the interior with all four headrests embroidered with the Abarth badge, and of course the 14" wheels with stud conversion and 10mm spacers at front and was built from factory and was not a sporting with dealer options.

Very interesting post, always wondered the finer details of it.
