I went to a mates house to buy a 240v hook up cable from him to use next time I take the kids camping. While I was there he showed me his parents old trailer tent, flat tyres, covered in green stuff. Said he needed it gone out of his way and as I had just fitted a tow bar would I mind getting rid of it for him. I get rid of trailer, he gives me 240v hook up cable for free, deal struck. Picked it up last night and towed it back to my place.
Decided to have a look at it this morning, check it out.

I've decided to hang on to it so gave my mate a few quid. All I know is its a Dandy 5 Berth trailer tent and its the heaviest thing I've ever towed(500kg).

Its a folding camper not a trailer tent

Looks in good condition, looks an 80's/early 90's model judging by the colour of the decor

If its a 5 berth it will have been a middle/top of range model at the time

They're ok dandy, they arent a top marque though, there is better marques out there

I stand corrected. (y)

Definately a 5 berth, 2 double beds and the settee converts to a single bed.

All the electrics work perfectly, which supprised me. I was thinking about ripping it to bits and making a trailer for my sons bikes and quads but like you say, its not in bad nik for its age, seems a shame to destroy it.

I wouldnt destroy it unless the linings are moulded to hell or its damaged (accident damaged) or letting water in like a sieve, but it doesnt look like any of those (dont know bout the water getting in obviously)

Tyres are easy enough to replace

It looks ready to go - you might want to check the sink cooker etc is in working order and the fixtures on the inside are in good order also, in fact check for signs of damp

Also check underneath, it might benefit from being waxoyled, while your at it you might as well reproof the linings also

There should be a plate on it somewhere, which will give you a reg/seriel number as some form of ID and at least a year of manufacturer, maybe even a model name

If you want to sell it id ring round a few caravn leisure centres etc see what its worth

I wouldve thought at least you would see close to £500 but probably more - its age lets it down and its very basic in terms of what they produce nowadays, but it is is ideal for someone just starting out

No mould, no damage, dry as a bone.
Manufacturer: Alois Kober kg, 8871 Kötz / Schwaben
Year built 1986
Gross vehicle weight 700kg

Hey AppleSei you seem well informed about these campers. Do you know anything about the actual chassi, brakes etc. I think I may keep it but want to overall the axles brakes etc.

There is a plate. Attached a photo of it.(German/Swedish?)

I used to work in an outdoor leisure shop which used to sell everything to do with the outdoors including campers trailer tents etc so have a bit of basic knowledge

Looking at the plate it looks like its just telling you the basic weights etc, perhaps put some words into google translator to see what they mean, the final bit of plate though is the year which is 1986 i think so its 24/25 years old, if it is it is in superb condition for age really, very well looked after

Looking at images on net it looks like its a dandy 'dart' model

It maybe worth asking these people http://www.dandyowners.co.uk/ regarding the brakes and servicing etc, they will probably be able to tell you more than i ever could about it

This is the main distributor http://www.rivadandysales.co.uk/ they may also be able to help

You have a bargain in my opinion

His parents brought a caravan, gave the trailer to him and its been sitting at the side of his house for the past 3 years.
I gave it a quick pressure wash this morning, it really isn't in bad nik for its age. Cooler box full of Guinness and rig up some sort of ITE (In Trailer Entertainment .. ;)), grab a few of the lads, park up near a river and get the rods out. Be ideal for festivals too. (y)

I think its deffinately a keeper. :D

If you've pressurewashed the canvas, you may need to reproof it. don't buy the 'proper' canvas tent reproofer, it costs a fortune, instead use Thompson's water seal, can be applied by brush or pressure sprayer - I used this stuff on the Scout patrol tents (and in the small print it does say it can be used on canvas.)

Its not canvas, its a really thick PVC, the type of thing you'd find on the side of an HGV trailer, "curtain sided trailer" I think they're called. My pressure washer kicks out 160 bar, it would have gone straight through canvas.

Actually, you'd be amazed at how strong canvas is. the patrol tents were 20+ years old and I only 'found' a handful of small holes altogether - and these were because the tents had been put away wet, allowing wet mud to dry in, and then not being got out until the next camp.

yeah definately worth reproofing, and waxoyling of the chassis - it has been stood outside for 3 years and barely moved

Hey AppleSei what do you think the trailer is worth, I think I might sell it to someone that will actually use it. I've already got all the camping gear I want.
Its a shame because I dont think I'll ever actually use it for anything more than letting the kids play in it. If someone offered me a reasonable price I might even deliver it.

i dont claim to be an expert but i would think you would get at least £500 but probably more than that

Id have a look on the internet or ask on the dandy forum etc or ring round a few places

Struggled to find it on ebay just going and searching ebay not by going through AW

You really need to find out the model because no one will see it via ebay search, it will obviously help because then people can research the model then
