Sad to see that Crosland Filters, a reputable Nottingham Company founded in 1955, has closed.
Euro Car Parts has bought the brand only for their exclusive use, and advertises it as 'providing clear filtration since 1955' http://www.croslandfilters.com/
I don't know whose filters they are putting in crosland boxes, and whether they are any good?

I think the 'Proud Heritage' ... 'Since 1955' ...on the website is misleading since I can see no real connection with Tony Crosland or his products.
Crosland were a Great British Company. But I know nothing about the products being sold under that brand name now.

As long as the quality is ok, does it realy matters what name is stamped on them?
How many ( carpart) brands have changed brands/ownership during the past?
Like Castrol, owned by BP these days, still one of the best quality lubricant available today...!!
And Castrol is proud of it's past as well...
For oilfilters, I don't think there's much difference in quality between well known brands, more important to change them (more) often...

I used to go to the Crosland offices in Bilborough, Nottingham in the 1980s every few months with my job. They had some big displays in glass cases of various filters. They were virtually next door to Entex springs (who are still going).

I think that is the ops main worry that that wont be, ecp have a rep over here for selling cheap parts that fail.

also lots of UK brands once good when they get taken over or production moved the quality goes right down. like Stanley used to be good tools now they are rubbish, dr martins were good boots now the ones made in china and Thailand fall to bits....

Its a pity we don't have standards for filters like we do for oil and fuel, as they are just as important. In the absence of that I trusted Crosland filters when Tony Crosland put his family name on them because he would have been degrading the family name and letting his family down if he didn't maintain quality. Car Manufacturers etc have to sell quality parts because they put their own brand name. But when somebody buys a brand name which is not their own in order to sell something, does the brand name become expendable?

Yes, although I have no personal experience of ECPs reputation for quality. ECP have undercut and put many motor factors out of business so some of the negative comments about their quality might be sour grapes? Rather like the supermarkets undercut and put filling stations out of business, so there were stories circulating that supermarket fuel will wreck your engine
But I wonder why ECP have paid to use somebody else's name, rather than put their own name on the products they sell?

i bought a cv boot by reg off ecp last week, turns out it only fits a manual car the reg i gave was for an auto, i didn't look at it too closley as was too busy taking photos for some one else on the forum, only noticed when car was all back together and grease started coming out.:(

Well I used ECP a few weeks ago for the first time ever.

I bought 4 items:

Denso alternator, Dayco aux belt tensioner, Dayco aux belt for my Croma and Thermostat housing for my Barchetta.

The Denso & Dayco parts were identical (same make & OEM part numbers) as on the Fiat originals.

On this basis I cannot see why these parts should be any more unreliable and cheaply made replacements for the Fiat original parts.

All I would advise is that when buying aftermarket OEM parts one should factor in ease of replacement when sourcing besides cost.

e.g. Fiat original part (very expensive), Bosch or Denso or Marelli part, or say a Lucas part.

another e.g. Fiat cambelt bits, or Dayco or Gates or SKF etc.

In theory if you stick to the big well known names for critical parts then one should have no real issues.

Lastly ECP supply many independent garages and I would have thought that supplying cheap, prone to failure parts to the trade would be the kiss of death to their business.
