Hello Internet,
a short introduction: I'm Freddy, 21 and an apprentice mechanic. Last February I bought a 1998 midnight blue 20V VIS and absolutely love it.

I tried to start it up friday morning, which it did, but it slowly died after a few seconds. If I push the throttle it immediatly dies. I talked a bit about this issue with my boss and he recommended I start the search for the cause of the problem with a change of the fuel filter as it might be clogged and I'm sure the previous owner certainly didn't replace that.

But my search for the filter has so far been unsuccessful. I looked into the repair manuals and there's nothing to be found in all the places where it should be.

Has anybody found it? :)

Thank you so much in advance!

Not had to work on that model but guessing, under rear of chassis forward of back wheel , looking something like this.
You may need to check fuel pump and power to it/fuses relays etc. When you turn on ignition do you hear the pump work for a few seconds then stop when pressure built up? Note if changing fuel filter under under car you may find fuel pipes need blocking off or something to catch the fuel safely!!!
I did my apprenticeship in 1969, never regretted it as something new to learn each day, even now.:)
Another point that may be unrelated but depends on what cold start/choke system it uses, as in if engine sensors are not giving an accurate reading engine may think it is warm and stall. This is only relevant if engine will restart and idle but stumbles if you try to accelerate.:)
