The clutch pedal on our new Stilo (1.9 JTD MW Dynamic 2004) sits about 25mm higher than the brake and the biting point is towards the top of the travel.

Is the pedal position and biting point normal ?

Also is there any provision for adjustment - I've never encountered a hydraulic system with a high biting point before !

Thanks,
Stuart

Try bleeding the clutch[how to do in guides section] no manual adjustment on the stilo clutches ..if the bleeding dont help then it sounds as if its general ware and tare ..could last for many more miles and then again it may not ..unfortunatly we dont have X ray eyes and able to see how far gone the plate is..

I would only usually bleed the clutch it the biting point was too LOW - the opposite is true here.

So first I need to know if the pedal position and bite are typical for my car before deciding if there may be a problem. Can anyone advise ?

Other than the pedal height there is no suggestion that the clutch is worn.

Thanks,

Hello Stuart,
Yes the pedals in my MW are the same. Had mine since January this year and got accustomed to it now. At first I found I was having to be careful to operate the clutch smoothly. The pedal heights are a Stilo "feature" - LOL

(Agree with you on no need to try bleeding the hydraulics)

Thanks Leo - my wife has been complaining that it's not as easy to drive in town as our old focus. Now I can tell her it's just a matter of aclimatisation.

I'm learning all about Stilo 'features' at the moment I've got three separate rattles to track down ! Still when it' only £5k for a 30,000 diesel estate you can't complain too much !

The clutch on a JTD is heavy. My wife wants me to sell my MW as she says the clutch is too heavy for her.

Eh?? When I was pulling out the pollen filter I was able to push the clutch pedal down with my hand - lightest clutch pedal I have ever known. (03 plate JTD MW)

I am 5 foot 7.5 inches tall and I find that the seat base is a bit long, that is why I found the clutch operation difficult at first but once my bum had settled in, the problem disappeared. Probably wise to choose your words carefully when telling your wife about that !!

Some JTD's have much lighter clutches. These seem to be ones that have had it replaced with a Velo clutch. Maybe you have one in yours.
I can press my clutch pedal by hand too. It is defiantly not a light clutch though.
