Cheap Mobil engine oil in Asda

Hey Peeps,

I seen this on FF and confirmed myself today, they are selling:

5L of 10/40w Semi syth Mobil Super S for £10
5L of 5/30w Fully syth Mobil for £15.

If my engine would take 5/30w i would of went for it!

I have got 5 bottles of it myself . Cost £50, but it is well worth it !

id think it'd run on 5w 30 fine tbh

the official reccomended is 10w 40, but it's a bit of a jack of all trades oil, doesnt really protect the engine brilliantly until it gets much hotter, 5w 30 protects it sooner and shouldnt ever get near the point where it'd make a difference to protection when it gets hotter unless it was under extreme running conditions (i.e hot weather running)

5w 30 IMO is a better oil viscosity for cold weather cold starting.

I just like to stick with what fiat recommends in this instance Is what i always used. I guess everyone see it differently.

aye, but better natural protection at cold can only be a good thing when theres no real trade off at the other end of the temperature spectrum

it also helps fuel economy and can make an engine slightly more responsive and powerful

im switching to 5w 30 on the cinq before the mot, will let you know if i notice ay differences

Am not arguing the cold protection, but is the 5 am not liking. I personally think is too thin for the old engine!

still plenty of oil up this end if i remember kirkton asda has a huge supply of car stuff for some reason ??? maybe to help all the thiefs get the cars they steal up and running quicker to sell on

Was none on the shelves at our branch either this morning but I suspect the staff had the dibs at this offer and not so much the public..did you see the post from Beau where he said take it to the checkout and it will scan the price lower..well I did that weeks ago and it still came up at £22 for Mobil S..went back this morning as they were opening and intended to ask them to scan a bottle again for me with a print out of the thread from F/F but as I said there want a single bottle of the suff on the shelves now unless you like the castrol crap they have replaced the mobil oil with..:sad:

IT camr up the lower price in the asda i go to! But all completely gone !! But it doesn't seems like an offer, as is just the asda roll back so the prices should stay! But at this rate they might put a stop to it ?

Sorry to bring this up again but I now know why the super S was cheap..mobil have renamed the oil and now call it mobil 2000 ..its gone up £5 in price as well and now at around £30 all bar some pennies for 5ltrs..guess they wanted to shift some old stock before the new stuff came in..:sad:
