Hi, I’m not really a newbe but I just cannot find my log-in details. This is my sixth Fiat…previously had a 128 Sport, 124 Coupe, Panda 55, Bravo, 500L, and now a 1993 Panda 750.
With winter approaching I decided to deal with a niggle on the Panda. The heater fan would not blow. I tested the wiring and all seems good but oddly when the fan switch was ‘on’, positions ´1´ and ´2´ both positive wires (red and the blue/black) were live. Decided the fan was at fault. After a struggle I removed it. Tested the fan across the battery terminals and nothing happened. Off to the breakers and got a nice fan which definitely worked when tested across the battery terminals. Fitted the fan and turned the switch from zero to 1. Nothing. Then to 2. Nothing. Removed fan and tested across battery. Dead. I had killed it. Has anyone had a similar experience and a solution? It seems weird to me that I could short the motor without blowing a fuse, hearing a bang or smelling melting rubber.

Has it got a resister in the fan housing to give the different fan speeds, they frequently fail on later Fiats.
Incidentally on many makes of vehicle if fan hasn't been used for a while the fan motor can stick and often a little WD40 in the mechanism and a flick of the fan blades to start it gets it back to life, though if it works I would be tempted to keep it on fast for a while.

Hi, thanks for your response. A faulty resister could be the cause of my woes. Sadly I cannot find it. It is not on the motor or it’s housing so the next place to look is behind the switch. Wish me well! Why are heater fans so inexcessible?

Try finding a photo of one for sale on eBay to help you recognise and locate it, it helped me;)
