Hi all.
I explained in my last post how 24 plate 500x came with no manual...

I've figured out most things but i have a couple of questions remaining.

  1. What's that button on the drivers door handle?
  2. Does the remote key have any party tricks? You know like remote start, closing/opening the windows that sort of thing?
  3. What would i do if the battery ran out in the fob? How would i start the car?
Thanks

Looks like your 500X has Passive Entry?

1) The button on the driver's door is to lock the car with Passive Entry.

a) Place fingers inside door handle and the car will unlock
b) Press button on outside door handle and car will lock (Note! this may engaged the deadlocks - double clunk - dangerous IMHO)

2) On key fob press the lock button twice to engage the door deadlocks

3) Keep a spare battery in the glove box is what I do. I've not tried this test but you could remove the battery and see if when held next to the start button, or down by handbrake button (this is when a key sensor is) the car will start. I don't think it will but worth a test.

Thank you greatly for your assistance.

I've disabled the passive entry so that would explain why i've pressing that button like a loon to no affect.:)

When you press the key fob lock button do the deadlocks engage? If unsure then lower the driver's window and lock the car. If you can't open the door by reaching inside the car and pulling the door release then the deadlocks have engaged.

So my last car you had to press the button twice (oddly the one before that you had to press it twice to not engage the deadlocks!)

so you do indeed have to press it twice to engage the dead locks. you can hear them engaging.

That thankfully is what I would have expected.

Just a word of caution / warning in that if you ever turn passive entry back on you may find that pushing the driver's handle little chrome button will automatically engage the deadlocks. No conscious action required, unless Fiat have backed this feature out after I complained on safety grounds.

I locked my wife in the car because I was so used to filling up, pushing the button and going to pay and had not been informed by Fiat/Service after a software update that this would happen. Had a fire or other safety issue occurred then the occupants would not have bee able to get out or others get in to rescue.

I guess that is why they changed it between my last 2 cars!
