Hi all,
I found this site last night and I love it already. I have my first real question. My 88 has both driver and passenger windows that have a broken piece of plastic that moves them up and down. I would like to know if this problem is common. When you pull off the very fancy:I door trim you will see a pipe that this white plastic thing runs up and down on and it is to fit in a hole in the bottom of the window. I guess the question is how hard is it to remove/replace. Do I have to get it at a Fiat dealer. Should I bother going to a junkyard to try will all others be junk. Is it a costly piece. Thanks for any reply.

I don't think it's a terribly common problem - I can't recall seeing it mentioned here, or the other places I look.

I would guess a trip to the local scrapyard is the thing to do: if they'll let you take the window regulator off their car yourself you'll learn about the way it fits together, without causing further damage to your Panda:)

The Haynes and Porter manuals both say that you can "disconnect the door carrier clamps from the cable.." which suggests you can get the plastic piece in question off, but I guess they are working on a Mk1 (pre 87) as the next section talks about "removing the window winder cable from the pulleys..."
The one I looked inside (93) while rattle hunting wasn't what I'd call a cable: there was a tube routed around the door inner. with an open slot along its length with a long coiled (spring like) wire inside. That coiled wire was pushed or pulled by a cog on the back of the winder (and it rattles when worn and short of grease:()

Regarding cost for the piece - I've got no idea - or even if it is sold as a separate part.
In the UK I'd probably have to buy the whole assembly, but Enzo ( from Naples) may be along in a while with some local knowledge.

John H,
Thanks for the info. I agree with you they are probley working on a older car. Mine also has a pipe in the middle with the plastic piece facing out. Thanks for the info on it anyway. I will wait for warmer weather to worry to much about it[8D] I can check the junkyards and maybe go to a dealership if all else fails.

Fortunately I've never been in need of dismantling the windows mechanism, but I replaced it on a 127 and I can say it's a not difficult but boring job...there's no space to thread your fingers B)!BTW I don't think single parts are sold, as the cable-pulleys-mounting come together and ready to be fitted.
