After 5 Months and almost 10 000Km the new clutch has failed, spectacularly!

Fiat said it is my driving style!!

My question is, what do you think causes that?

That doesn't look like a Luk clutch? Well first of all what model Bravo do you drive?
I replaced my clutch and slave cylinder a month and a half ago on my Tjet and i must say my clutch disk looked slightly different.
But I'm in the same boat as you man, my slave cylinder gave way after a month (according to the mechanic). A Fiat didn't wanna give me a guarantee cause I didn't have them to replace it! Such BS. Although my mechanic replaced the slave cylinder again but it appears to be still a leak in my clutch hydraulic system.:bang:
However Fiat has a 12 month guarantee on all their parts and they SHOULD replace that if you rate it's a failed part.

Hi l3v1athan,

It is a 1.9 Multijet, I sent the photos to an independent specialist and they said it looks like a refurbished unit to them. Still waiting for someone to make a decision and until then I have to borrow cars from every one in the family to do my work.

It is very frustrating!!!

How much was it to replace the clutch on your tjet?

What driving style can cause this ? No way

Hi

Do you know if there is a difference between the 1.4 tjet and 1.9 Multijet clutches? The quote I just received has the car listed as a 1.4 not a 1.9.

P.S. the quote is R15 552.24
according to Fiat I have to replace the flywheel as well even if the independent report said it is still brand new.

Any one have a lighter and some petrol I can use....:bang:

Yes it's the same kit.
and yes it's better to replace DMF too.

I paid R3861 (£215.813) for the clutch kit alone (Clutch plate and pressure plate)

I'm assuming when you originally replaced the clutch it was due to wear? If so, yes then you need to replace DMF. But when the clutch broke it wouldnt be necessary to replace it again as the DMF is still new. DMF's usually wear out at the same rate as the clutch plate and form "around" the clutch, so when a new clutch is put it it's not a proper contact

yes but did he replaced DMF too?

also the clutch broke for a reason...DMF can be one

Hi all,

Got the Bravo back today, replaced the DMF and the clutch kit.
R11 000 so after a lot of fighting they gave me some discount on the parts.

 yessie! Is there a way to tell if your clutch may be on its way out? R11 000 can get you almost a month worth of fuel in South Africa ;)

On my first clutch the pedal got very soft and did not always want to jump back. I am not sure if this is an clutch symptom because the gearbox was faulty that caused the slave cylinder to leak out the fluid, the second clutch gave a massive shudder and then nothing. I am busy with the MIO because it looks like faulty installation that caused the clutch to fail after only 10 000Km.

Will keep you posted.
