Bravo 1.2 SX 80 2001 Overheating

Hi All,

I have been experiencing problems with overheating for this car for quite sometime now.

Finally got chance to have a look at it, I have connected my OBD2 Scanner and the ECU is reporting P0480 Error ( Coolant Fan 1Control Circuit Malfunction ).

From reading multiple posts it seem that this model is a special one with no Fan Switch and is controlled by the ECU.

I have checked if the fan is working by connecting it to battery and it is all good.

Coolant Temperature is being detected correctly from the ECU as the temp is going up the longer the car is ran.

Looking over forums some people have mentioned the Fan Relay !?!?! Not sure where this is but people have mentioned the Box infront of the battery, opened it up and found a red relay and an empty slot for a black relay. I have attached some pics.

Any Thoughts?

Check that the main fuses on the strut tower are not burnt.
Then there are one or two relays depending if the car has AC or not in front of the battery.
Service manual Vol3 page 696.

There also seems to be fuse for the relay supply on the drivers fusebox (Vol4 page 432)

Can you switch the fan on?
Atleast with MultiECUScan you can just switch the fan on when connected, then measure if any of the connectors on the socket are grounded/powered.
Fan always has 12V via main fuses, the relay grounds it.
Wiring diagrams seems wrong as it seems the relay gets power via ignition lock and the fuse (but it should be able to spin even if the key is removed...) and the relay is switched on by the ECU grounding the other side of of the relay.

adding to Neverth help, with multiecuscan, turn first speed and second speed, once the relays clicking so you have check the fan itself and start with inspecting the 1 ohm resistor in the fan body...
If the relays not clicking, you should inspect them..
These are the main problems with the fan
