Replaced brake shoes on my sporting today.

Brake shoes' Are Pagid. ive never used Budget Brake parts before but after what ipaid for last shoes (Bosch) ithought feck it there worth atry.

islackend cable off.
removed drums,
loosend off adjusters
removed and replaced.

adjusted new shoes so drum just skims the shoe's,
took slack out of handbrake cable in car.

anyhow, the handbrake is crap.

are these pagid shoes crap or is it my method.

Pagid are part of TMD friction, which include Mintex and Don brands, so should not be a problem.
I've got Pagid pads on the front, they're fine.

As shoes, they'll probably need to bed in a bit before they give their best. Try to brake gently over longer distances, this will give the rear brakes more work. The harder you brake, the more is done by the fronts, with the rear pressure reduced to avoid lock up, so gentle uses the rears more. They'll bed in better.

The way i do it is to refit the drums and use the pedal to take the slack out of the adjusters , by pressing firmly until there are no more clicks back there and only then see to the cable.

did you deglaze inside of drums with some 80 grit?
i al;so rough up new new shoes
i find this better than left foot braking to bed them in

never had a problem yet
oh and i do as you o-h:)

Thanks all .

ive not had apropper look over at it again yet.
but ithink the self adjusters are useless.

iwill take drums back off and adjust them up again and see what happens.
ionly put shoes in this 12mth back and didnt have all this faff with them.

only changed them as ihad a grating noise on one side and the pagid where on offer at e.c.p 12 quid ithink they was.

wished inever botherd now. :D

lightly.... that sounds like 200grit paper

As said - get a minimum of 120 - give it a good scoring up - Deglaze, a nice ""honed"" dull scratchy look is what i normally go for :)

Pagid do the stock pads for merc's and porche's etc so there okay pads, i found them a little soft and ate a set of pads on mine super quick...

But shoes - should work fine, sometime i wonder if the punto need's softer/gripper brake shoe material :)

ziggy

ive got it sorted me thinks.

put new handbrake cables on. the ones that where on looked ok.
but got all new on now.
back to 2-3 clicks on handbrake so alls good.

Fwiw. iwont be using the Pagid shoes again. there seems to be alot more friction
material on the more expensive one's. but still they only lasted 12mth ish
so no win here realy.

the self adjusters on these are a waste o space iwill stay with adjusting them up manualy..
