hi guys
i need some advice as im not very technical with ice. this is my idea or imagination more like. i have a fiat punto mk2b and im wanting to get a blaupunkt subwoofer gtw 1000 http://www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7606474000_main.asp

or the gtw 1200 http://www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7606475000_main.asp

and im wanting to put it in the middle of my parcel shelf.
now i do need to check the measurements and see what will fit. they are both basically the same sept one is 10 inches and the other is 12. the reason i have gone for these subwoofers is that there blaupunkt, and thats the standard system i have in my car already. so kind of wanted to keep it the same. im just basically woundering if i would benefit from it and if it would work there and so on.
im open to everyones opinions and help would be muchly appreciated.
thanks Mikey

Hi mate,

If when you say the "standard system" you already have in your car, you mean the one that it came with out of the factory, then that alone will not power a sub woofer. You will need an amp to power it. You will also need a head unit with RCA outputs on it. I would check to see if your standard headunit has them (which most factory fit headunits dont). You would also need to beef up your parcel Shelf, as a sub is very heavy, and will bounce up and down going over bumps in a standard parcel shelf. And finally, the subs that you have selected are both "enclosure" subs, meaning that they rely on a sealed air tight box at the back of them to produce crisp base. You would therefore need to either build an airtight box underneath your parcel shelf (not very practical) or buy a "free air" sub. Another option is to scrap mounting it on the parcel shelf and have it in the boot in a sub box.

If its set up correctly, you will certainly benefit from it with lots more base than standard.

Hope that helps,
Alan

i would put it in a box or get a stealth shelf.
subs in the back on standard shelfs look s***e in my opinion !...

Hi mate,

It depends what sort of sound your after. You could get the standard Fiat sub woofer. it fits nicely in the boot at the sid (takes up no space) and will enhance your base a fair bit. You can pick them up on e-bay for around £25 and its a self contained unit, meaning you dont need a seperate amp. If you want a set up where your rear view mirror vibrates at full wack then your best off going with a sub, amp and enclosure in the boot rather than on the parcel shelf.
Another advantage of the fiat unit, is that it will work with your fiat headunit, whereas by the sounds of it, you will also have to upgrade your headunit if you want to go for a sub/amp setup.
(Ps i have both the standard fiat sub in one punto, and a rear view mirror shaker in the other, so will depend how much bass you want)

EDIT: and a stealth shelf is a thicker, stronger version of your current parcel shelf.

Hi mate, no problem

Yea they are straight forward to fit. If you look in your boot, on the left hand side up the top by the speaker, you may see a wiring multi-plug (it may be tucked behind the carpet) This simply plugs into the sub unit, and your away (after using the 3 screws to secure the sub to the side of the boot of course). Its 100w and will add noticable bass to your system, but not enough to make your windows/mirrors shake.

dats mint mate, dats all im bofad about is abit extra power. thanks for your help.
just need to find one now lol none on ebay typical or what.
thanks thought mate will keep looking

stealth shelf comes standard with holes in them to fit ur speakers (6x9s , sub . etc.) and the top of the shelf is covered so u dont see the speakers wen their fitted , gives it a cleaner look and hides them from robbing C***s.
