General barchetta diagnostic interface?

Hi all,

I've seen a few articals & adverts regarding fault code readers and reset tools.

I seem to remember discussion that someone had tried these regarding the airbag warning and it hadn't worked to reset on the barchetta. However I can't find the thread.

Does anyone know what the required interface for the barchetta is? I've seen an artical about the new Mini having the same problem and it mentions a reset tool which works well on that. Thought it may be worth a gamble but need to verify the required interface.

Can you advise?

I just had a quick search myself. I recalled the discussion from another thread , but discovered that it was a post from you previously. Anyway, no joy finding it.

Oh, and seems I've come accross the same "airbag light on" problem. I presume I caused the problem myself after I dropped a screw and moved the seat to get at it.... eeeekkkk. It really shouldn't be so easy to "screw" it up.

Also, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a diagnostic device. I presume they're rather expensive though. Lets hope someone has some advice on the matter. I mean, garages must get the device from somewhere...

Previous post's on this matter were from Doc and I think he was trying to upgrade from OB1 to OB2 Diagnostics.

With BMW's and other makes you can get a service tool to reset the service lights etc from a fiver. Don't think there is anything available for the Barchetta on that level. Not sure if something like carsoft would work but your looking at at least £100-£200 for a copy of the software and hardware to plug into the car.

Argos do a thing called an RAC checker. Might be worth a look.

Hey guys,

I've had a look at the RAC Fault Code Reader (and fault resetting) device. Sounds promising I'd say. DOC or Alan, what's your view? At £39 I'd be willing to splash out for one if, for example, I could turn off my airbag warning.

Lots of info about the OB2 connector and 3pin connector for the Barchetta on this forum m8.

Below is a little to get you started.

If your B is after 2001 you will have the new OB2 connector under the dash, if like me you have a car before that date you will find the 3 pin Fiat connector on the ABS unit, under the plastic cover on the back of the engine bay and the airbag connector under the dash on the PS of the car. We are yet to get software to work with the Fiat 3 pin system.

If anyone tries out that thing from Argos on a post 2001 Mk2 please let me know how it goes. That would be a handy thing to have in the toolbox if it works for the airbag light (and is idiot proof!)

Doc, my wee zippy is a 2000 model. So, I suspect that it's more difficult, or impossible, to find a software solution?

I you type "FIAT OBD" on ebay, there is a software sold, that could work on the barchetta. You just need Docs cables

I noticed that on some B's the ECU is mounted on the Intake Manifold unlike others where their ECU is located under the dash...

Just did a search on ebay (fiat obd software ) got some very interesting results perhaps someone with some knowlege of this subject could check it out. In particular software for obd1 and obd2 2008 item. £4.99 buy now.

OBD2 software does not work if you have the old 3pin fiat connectors 1995-2001 becauset he connectors and the software protocols are not the same.

Just had to have my air bag light turned off the local electric garage did it for 54euros have now taped the two connector's together also lost the speedo for 4 miles came back is this another prob on the B/ i wish i had seen this site before applying for my attestation here in France as they have charged me over100 euros, live and learn so they say. Howdy guys,

Just had my airbag warning reset. Cost 30€. Not too bad I'd say.

I actually had brought the car to two garages (neither are Fiat dealers as I promised to not give them any more of the hard earned) before it was reset. The first garage were using the OBD1 connector under the hood and to the front of the drivers seat. Turns out it was simply the wrong connector. The second garage discovered the second OBD1 connector behind the center console on the passenger side. Took all of 2 mins to sort out.
