Hi,

It is great to be back on the Fiat Forum, I was first here 17 years a go in a Punto Sporting (great car).

Various other Fiats along the way and today I picked up a little 500 Sport.

It's a 2013 with 60K miles and in general looks well kept.

However, there's a light grinding noise coming from the gearbox (I think). It's apparent when driving in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and not in 4th and 5th. When you press the clutch it goes. There's a receipt for a new clutch 2 months ago.

I spoke to a gearbox place in Leeds and they think it will be the gearbox that needs to come out?

I am sure others must have encountered this?

Leeds Transmissions used to be very good in the 80’s and 90’s, but we’re very cagey wehn I enquired about a mates 500 box, a couple of years ago, and quoted a ridiculous amount as they suspected third gear synchro as ‘all fiats are like that’. I was enquiring about fixing second gear as it kept ‘dropping out’. So it went in at a place in Morley!

sounds like the input shaft bearing starting to fail. It is common . the box will have to come out for repair.
