This is really iratating me . the revs on my Fiat Brava are randomly going high or really low when the car is iddling . sometimes it even stalls when i'm changing gear coming up to a junction . Does anyone know how i fix this or what it is ? I think it has something to do with the sensor i have pictured here withe the red tape round it .

The valve that you mention is for anti-evaporation system, so it aint got nothing to do with the idle, but the sensor left to the pipe from it on the inlet manifold has. Its the ICV (idle control valve), it may be malfunctioning, so cleaning it may help, but check the connection to it first (connector).

Checked connectors

I have checked the connectors that you have said . If i un plug either of the sensors in this area the car won't start at all . I have removed the pipe that goes into the manifold that is attached to the anti-evaporation solenoid valve and the car seems to run ok apart from 2 things

1.) idle revs are quite low and it sounds as though the engine is chugging

2.) when i now change gear of stop the revs stay high when the clutch is dis engaged (around 3000rpm)

any ideas fella's?
