You'd get a fault code scan done, the warning light has come on so it's stored a code.
It'd be anything at this point, especially if you haven't felt any issue during driving.

If you haven't got a scanning tool, you need a laptop, Multiecuscan software cost ~£50, then a few cables specifically for Fiat/Alfa/Lancia, there's plenty on eBay, most important one is Elm327, or someone from the forum might be near you who's got one.

Otherwise you gotta visit a reputable garage near you, Italian cars specialist even better, try to look for at least 4star and 100+ reviews.

Thank you for your reply and advice. I shall ask a mechanic I know to take a look and attach his gadget reading thing and see what the fault code means ,regards susan

Hello,

In the download section of the forum here:

There are owner's handbooks available + the Dualogic suplement. You'll find useful information including the meaning of the LED on the dashboard.

Then, it's not an automatic, it's a robotized manual gearbox. It needs regular and precise servicing. If it has not been done for a while, it can become problematic, which I assume is the case.

There are not many mechanics that know this gearbox and how to service it. And not every code scanner is able to run the correct procedures. MultiEcuScan is a dedicated tool for FIATs that is able to make it properly.

The same gearbox was sold by the FIAT group under different names: dualogic / selespeed / comformatic / F1. They all need the same handling.
