I have a 2004 Panda 1.2 Dynamic, inherited from my dad. Total mileage is 80k (both of us only ever did short distances in it). The car drives fine except for a clutch which starts squeaking after half an hour or so, and sometimes gets sticky after that. I'm told this is a standard problem and an easy fix, but my mechanical knowledge is zero. Otherwise, it has a worn driver seat cover, and a small dent (cosmetic only) in the rear door, an MOT till October, and has been serviced every year though I don't have all the records.

I need to sell as is as I am moving abroad and don't want a right-hand drive car there. With this age I don't expect much for it, but am a bit baffled by the range in prices I'm finding: webuyanycar offer £378 minus £49 charges, and from what people tell me will knock it down from there to around £200 when they see it. Cars the same model/age in similar or worse condition seem to be going for around £600 - £1000 on ebay (I assume with no guarantee). Autotrader say the car is too old to sell through a dealer, though presumably webuyanycar will sell it on to a dealar. Is the difference between ebay pricing and webuyanycar just from the added hassle of dealing with ebay buyers? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Graham

Hi sounds like a great little car and ideal for someone who wants a first car. My advice is to either put a classified here choose something like eBay use lots of photos and maybe put on a reserve. It is a 20 year old car so pitch it at what you’d be happy at which my be around the £600 mark. If the clutch is squeaking internally and not just the pedal then it’s unlikely to be an easy fix as it’s a clutch change to sort it but it may be something or nothing. Sometimes it might just need a bit of lubrication on the fork.

The trade won't be interested.

Putting it on ebay should get you a fair market price for it, without you having to take a guess at a figure (and possibly undervaluing it).

The private sale value of this kind of car is significantly affected by the length of MOT remaining. Whatever its value turns out to be, if you get a fresh MOT you will likely get several hundred pounds more.

Bad points

Not an automatic
Not a diesel
Not a limited edition
High road tax
Not low emissions
Towards is end of life
Needs some TLC
Short MOT

Good points
Small
Economical
Practical
Low insurance

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it

Someone will deffo give £300 I doubt anyone would pay over £500

So something like £499 or very near offer

Or priced to sell £399 no offers

If it had been a low road tax model completely different, over a grand easy

Unfortunately eBay sold cars as old as this, tend to go back up, as the buyer pulls out, so searching sold isn't 100%

Bog standard 1.2 are £300-400 mainly, private sale no warranty

21 years use to be classed as a classic at one time

Correct

12 months MOT, running fine

£600

With an MOT due in October that's about where I'd put it.

With a full 12 months MOT I'd not be that surprised if someone would give £750, but that's about as far as you can get with a car like this.

And I should also point out that if you MOT it now and it fails & can't economically be repaired, you'll only get scrap money for it.

Not low emissions
Are you sure? Certainly it won't be cheap RFL, but it could be OK for ULEZ.

I've just put a random '54 plate 1,2 Panda Dynamic through the TFL emissions checker and it's showing as ULEZ compliant.

Graham, go to the TFL website & put in the reg number - if it's ULEZ compliant, it could make a difference (particularly if you're selling it in Greater London).

Nope not 100%, not 100% how it works

I had a 2005 1.1 and 2006 1.2 both had heigh tax

Which is why I didn't repair them and moved to a 2010

133g/km I believe

Yes, its ULEZ compliant (I live within the area so I'm quite sure about that)

I'm new here, but maybe you're over thinking this? Although I don't see a lot of 2004 Pandas for sale in the Netherlands, I do see many 2007 and up. I just bought a 2008 for 2700 euro with about the same mileage. Depending on how it looks, just place an add for what you think is fair. Look at these prices for 38 UP to 2004 Fiat Panda's in the Netherlands on Autotrader.nl.....

These are great cars! People love them!

OK, you all convinced me to get a new MOT (which I never would have thought of doing myself), and then trying to sell. It's unlikely to fail on anything major, but I'll be annoyed if I have to spend much on it. Anyway, I'll take the risk and if all ok put it on ebay and see.

I changed my mind and stuck with webuyanycar to save the hassle. As I expected, they knocked another £100 off for dents and scratches, and £49 for admin charges.
