Hi,
I recently bought a Panda 4X4 and the front suspension needs some repairs (ball joints, track rod ends). Looking at the market discovered that FIAT parts are almost 20 times more expensive than other manufacturers. Anyone knows if there is the same diference in quality or buing from fiat I'm paying for the brand on the box? The question is FIAT or aftermarkt parts?

Thanks

Think I paid about 80 quid for a ball joint for Sylvia (my 1991 Panda) there a few weeks ago... I didn't argue and just paid. Looking forward to seeing where this goes, Mmmm.;)

I have always stuck to a rule if its a car you need, abuse and need the best performance from it get genuine parts everytime, if its not get pattern parts.

I agry for the importance of good performance (especialy suspension when moving off rad). But i don't think that fiat construct every part for their cars. So there must be a supplier to fiat "genuine" parts. But these are parts that I will replace again sooner or later. What I'm not sure is how much longer the fiats will last compearing to some other Italian (not Indian or chinese)manufacturer.

The cheapest solution is to purchase the ball joints only, then remove the old ones from the hub carrier and argon solder new ones into place. But this is not a favorable option since heat from the argon will probably deform the carrier a bit.

I use wide range of Italian producer spare part other than FIAT, and till now without any problems. For example bal joint specially hardened (stronger bolt-than normall ball joint) - Italian producer - not FIAT, here in Bgd costs 22 EURO. I can check name of prodecer

plase mate, do. I've found some here in Greece, but just checking. Are you talking about the ball joint together with the hub carrier (pilar)?

Is there something wrong with the metal part? I have had to replace the ball joints a few times, it just presses in. And the ball joint is a lot cheaper (£5-10) then a ball joint with the hub carrier.

To get the old ball joint out, take of the circlip and hit it with your largest "persauder" (hammer). Then use a big vice to press the new one in (or if that proves akward a bit of wood and your persauder again.) You may need to be creative with bits of metal to support it but its not too hard.

The previous owner had done this and also welded the new ball joints in place:bang: So now to remove them I'll have to cut with a disk and I don't know what the result will be... maybe it's better to change all the part

Ah! ok, unless you cut it out and weld in a new ball joint I think your right in getting a new metal part too. On the plus side I wouldn't be overally concerned about OEM for that metal part. A fiat or good quality ball joint would be favourable though, I've had a cheap South American one fail in less than a year. If it were me I would be inclined to go for the cheapest hub carrier and balljoint I could find then be prepared to replace the ball joint in a year or 2, but i'm a cheapskate!:p Most motorfactors stock or can get hold of them.
