General Abarth - Sulphury smell on harsh acceleration

Hey people!

I have a Stilo Abarth Selespeed with an issue (unusual, I hear you say!)

When quickly going through the gears or using kick down, I get a sulpher type smell coming into the car. It's only there for about a minute afterwards and only under harsh acceleration.

I have checked the sillyspeed fluid, and that is just below the marker (^ with the - on top). Engine oil level ok too.

Anyone else have this? Is it just one of those things that the car does...??

Have had her nearly a year now with no major problems - only the airbag which I've fixed and a coil failing every now and then.

Any advice would be appreciated!

are you sure is not the smell of clutch slipping. im 99% sure the selespeed box does have a clutch so it could be a sign of it on the way out. drive it easy and it should last a bit longer if that is what it is

Yea, it does have a clutch :-(

It doesn't have signs of a slipping clutch though (when I accelerate, I go faster!)

Maybe if it's just starting to wear out, it wouldn't show any other signs.

Just thinking....
If it was the clutch, then would the smell be the same as if you held the car on a hill for a while?
If it would be, then that's not the same smell (providing all burning clutches have the same smell!)

well if it only slips on hard acceleration then you wont get the smell. remember the clutch is the weakest part (suppose to be) on the drive chain, if your appling full power its will cause a slip on a wearing clutch, if its servicable it may not slip on a hill as there is less power applied.

it's probably the catalic converter you're smelling , it produces a gas which contains sulfur , smells like rotting eggs.
On harsh acceleration the lambda correction is bypassed for max. power, this way a rich mixture is used which doesn't burn as clean a a regulated mixture.

what sort of journeys do you do bud?

just thinking, along the lines of yellows post, you may have killed the cat if you only do short runs and dont really keep her hot for long periods of time
