... is there any legal reason for this or is it just to make them more visible?

am i safe parking my car in front of my own house now or am i now illegal?

can anyone shed some light on this situation?

i'll try and get some pics up to illustrate the problem.

do what the van driver did... "f**k the rules, i'll park on double yellows!"

ya trouble is last time i did that cost me £200 to get my car out of the pound... that neighbour called the wardens out cus i was 1 inch over the double yellows. I had gone to work and came home to find a note in my door. I dont lower myself to his level by calling them out deliberatly (he parks that exact same way daily) but when the wardens came round last time they just asked him to move no ticket no fine no towing

truthfully i hate his guts but what can you do..last time the warden asked he spouted a load of anti racist stuff at him to make him go away (he is from jamaica) every time we go head to head he pulls the racist card from his bag so now i just leave him be i cant be arsed

point is he will prob call them out (if he aint already) to see if my car can get towed again and as i park there every day no doubt it will.

seeems your neighbour is a bit of an arse, in my opinion rob "roberto" is the man for you in this situation. so until then just sit in your front window, if wardens come round, move your car quickly.

Looks to me like they may have painted them on the kerb to identify driveway entrances or maybe some health and safety warning on a raised kerb. They certainly don't look like restrictive road markings. The only kerb yellow lines I'm aware of are where they are painted in pairs perpendicular to the kerb which indicate "No Loading".

Cheers gents i shall continue to park here (got no other option)

I feel a little safer now but still in the back of my mind think I will come home from work to find either a fine or no car!

I have just seen a parking services van stop and chat with my neighbour he was again asked to move on, nothing was said about mine as far as i could tell, so looks like he did call them. petty isn't it.

was it the council or your neighbour???

Marea, why settle for less?

defo council as my neighbour (on the other side) saw them do it nice little old lady.
A council transit turned up they threw paint down on 4 people's drives' dropped kerbs, mine being the first, then buggered off. no note no letter explaining and as far as i can tell no other street has had it done near me.

As far as I can see, the way they've been painted is not a recognised traffic sign, though I might be wrong.

Yello lines

Well, I been drivin 18 years, and I've never come across anything like that matey boy, they look like bullsh*t markings, which unless accompaneid by a sign will mean nothing. Get in touch with your residents association, and give em a b*lloking, for they highways dept for not notifying the householders in the first place !!

get a brush and some gray paint and cover em up !

well i did think ******** to it i'll just paint over em but why should i have to pay for it

I was gonna ring the council tues (got no answer today) and:

A)ask why they were painted
B)ask who asked for it to be done
C)ask why i was not notified
D)ask em to remove it as i dont like a huge yellow blob next to my sweet Bravo

if they say no then i'll do it myself

Tim

if they are dropping kerbs to allow vehicle access, it could simply be marking out which ones to do.

This could of course be a health and safety exercise!! prehaps paint the leading kerb stones yellow, so people cant take them to court saying that they had tripped because the kerb suddenly dropped, but they deffo arent traffic markings!!!
