My 500 gucci has a poorly rear end [emoji23] after a few dry days I decided to wash my car...... I jet washed and polished but.... I’ve noticed on the rear bumper some sort of coating is coming off!!?!! My car is metallic white ... is it the metallic coating ? Anyone had a similar experience?? Possible repair ideas? I just saw a bumper for sale on eBay with what looks like a similar issue ...so I thought I’d ask! IMG_2177.JPG

Not sure to be honest, has the rear bumper had previously resprayed or repaired? Very odd. But I would guess its had some kind of repair at some point. And the paint is peeling maybe.

But I'm no expert, just trying to help ?

Yeah I’ve no idea only had the car a month but my guess is probably... I reckon it’s gonna have to be a complete bumper re spray!! But after I speak to the dealer [emoji106]

I’m guessing it has had a replacement bumper which was normal Bianco white and someone has sprayed it with the pearlescent with a rattle can as a bit of a bodge. It looks like normal white underneath.

Yeah sounds about right! I went over the car with a fine tooth comb before I bought it too ? ah well!! Spray job on the bumper then! And I ain’t tackling that [emoji23]

It could have been a Smart repair... some minor fang or scrape fixed by filling and blowing over the affected area, rather than painting the whole bumper.

But the answer is the same - you needs a pro' sprayer to spray the whole bumper.

If it was me, I'd leave it till next Spring. Painting in cold/'orrible/wet weather is tricky, especially if the paint shop doesn't have a heated workshop. If there's any moisture about, you can get pin-holes appearing in the paint which lifts the top-coat. So, leave the weather is warmer/drier or get a cast-iron guarantee from whoever sprays it.

[emoji817] waiting till spring it’s bugging me but compared to my old 500 my new to me gucci is EVERYTHING [emoji23] I can wait ??

The Gucci did have the option of a pearl white, I’m not sure how the pearl was applied but it was a very strange effect and nothing like bianco white. If the pearl was in the clear coat then it’s possible that it’s simply the clear coat that’s pealing. It does not necessarily mean the car has been repainted or retouched at any time.

Mmm interesting [emoji848] I’m not sure but it’s [emoji817] a glittery top coat! It’s absolutely fine everywhere else just the rear bumper maybe because it’s plastic ... anyway next spring will have to get it sorted
