I have a 2024 LWB Ducato campervan. I am considering purchasing the Genuine Fiat rear parking sensors, ECU snd associated loom. I have been told this will plug into existing loom around the rear offside tail light area. The problem is being a camper van I have limited access to fish around in that area and cannot find any 'unused' connectors that this would plug into. I am thinking that maybe someone with a panel van and factory installed rear sensors could confirm if this is the case or maybe show a few pics. I believe the paring ECU is a small black Bosch box.
Many thanks
Mark

Hello,

It's a van equipped with CAN, looking at MES it will surely need proxy alignment done with MultiEcuScan after the installation.

It is likely that your van is equipped with SGW (security gateway) preventing non authorised people from doing modifications to the van CAN system. Check on the MultiEcuScan website on the actual status of the compatibility for the most recent vans.

On the other hand, why not a reverse camera? it is much more useful.

On the Panda, there is a plug behind the bumper its fixed to the bodywork. If you have a telescopic inspection mirror you may be able to look see if its the same. I do agree with the green vamper that as a retrofit a reversing camera is probably better, and probably easier to fit as well.

My 2021 Ducato has the factory fitted reversing sensors. The cable from them goes into the bodywork but, despite peeling back the side panel as far as I can, I can't see where it goes from there without ripping out furnishings etc and floor to release the side panels etc, so I had to give up looking, sorry - I tried.
The factory fitted reversing sensors are good - far more reliable than the cheap ones I had off ebay for previous vans.
But, as previous posters have found, the reversing camera is better, because you can see more accurately how much space you have got, enabling you to get into tighter parking spaces more reliably and safely.
Thats not always good though. I had just got into a fairly tight roadside parking space in central Manchester when a woman with a gob on her like Angela Rayner shouted -
Oi!! How am I supposed to get out of there Toolbag!!
I have been called a lot of things but, as far as I can recall, I haven't been called a Toolbag before, so remember it because I had learned a new insult
She had got room to get her car out, but I didn't fancy arguing with her so I moved.

Thanks for the responses. There is a reverse camera fitted but I like having an audible backup to the camera just for the instances where you take eyes off the screen to check surroundings or mirror. Reg 65 thanks for digging as far as you could. Hopefully someone with a van they have not fitted out can maybe see the location. The green vamper can anyone with a multiscanecu activate the ancillary equip and would the same activation be required for towbar wiring which I know connects into the CANBUS up front in footwell/fusebox area.

Not anyone. The newer models are equipped with the SGW, if so, a SGW bypass would be required. More details at: https://multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx

I have no information on how the towbar is activated. The towbar is not visible on the screenshot pasted above as a separate module, so I assume it won't need proxy alignment. But perhaps there's an activation button somewhere in the menu, like for example the cruise control or external temperature sensor.
