Hey, I’ve already asked a similar question about another year’s model which I never end up getting my hands on. But again might be a basic question. Currently looking into buying a Fiat Scudo 2011 diesel 1.6L Multijet 66kW / 90 hp as my first car which I plan on turning into a mini camper with the basic bed and small kitchenette. I’m wondering if you have any advice on whether it’s a good choice for a first time car buyer (don’t know anything about cars) in terms of power, driving long distances, up keep, maintenance costs, what the most common issues are, what to look out for in the test drive, etc?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Hello,

If you don't know anything about cars, take it to a mechanic that will check it before you buy it.

What do you mean by saying you want to turn it into a mini camper? Have you got at least basic knowledge and skill about such things? What about the installations? water? electricity? gas? heating?

Hey,

Thanks for replying and appreciate the tips.

I don't have much worry about the conversion part. As I'm only planning on building basic things such as inside paneling, a bed, and a slide out kitchenette which I have knowledge on doing.

As far as the car goes, everything seems to be in good condition and will be brought to a service check-up before buying. My question is more about whether or not the 1.6L 90hp engine is powerfull enough to suit my needs. I am planning on roadtripping around Norway and potentially Europe. So I am wondering if anyone has feedback and experience with Scudo 1.6L 90hp?

Great :)

Good idea. The modern vehicles are complicated, especially diesels, with all the eco systems. But they have to be there.

I'm not a diesel specialist nor a fan. 90 HP engine for a van that will weigh something between 2 and 2,5 tons loaded is not much. But I assume you're not looking for a speed deamon, but rather an economic van. My van has 136 HP and loaded will reach the 3,5 tons. So more or less the same power / weight ratio. It is not fun to drive, but it does the job on the road. Probably crossing the higher mountains like the Alps or the Pyrenees it will struggle a little bit, but I don't mind shifting gears a little bit more.

Awesome, thank very much for your insight. It is very much appreciated!!

One more thing: being it a 90 HP version does not mean it will be the more economic one. Might be (and apparently is) that the versions with the more powerfull engines are less fuel consuming :) At least according to the Polish wikipedia, the English one does not mention the fuel consumptions.

Last column is fuel consumption in liters per 100 km. Urban / motorway / mixed.

The English site mentions also a gasoline version, which might be easy to convert to LPG, which also could be a source for heating and cooking.

However depends on the local regulations and the destinations of your future journeys (for fuel availability). LPG would be the cheapest fuel and both gasoline and LPG are having cleaner exhaust gases than diesel.
