hello folks bit of a long shot here, but i know you guys love a challenge. Early 2006 Fiat Ducato 2.8 Desiel
mobile machanic has left me in the lurch changed disks and pads all round but did not realise there were shoes as well as pads in the back disk for the handbrake.
now i am left with no shoes and no hand brake and he is offski
I purchased new shoes but have no idea how they assemble or what components i need to put them back together.
if anyone can maybe shed some light as to where to get these clips/components all i have is empty disk/drums and a set of shoes.
a diagram or a picture would be awsome.

Hello,

Early 2006 says not much about the van.

Apparently there are different brakes depending on the load capacity. The drum+disc combination limits it a little bit, but still can be tricky :(

The diagram comes from the forum ePER (link on the bottom of the forum banner, search windows is top left of the screen). I suggest you search with the VIN number to have the accurate results. If the VIN is not recognised, you'd have to browse by model and categories, then check thoroughly the van options (column name Compatibility) and Modifications to be sure to have the correct part numbers.

There are 8 diagrams of rear brakes, 6 with drums+discs. So don't get fooled by the 1st one.

Double check with the seller that they will fit your van before you purchase.

As for the guide on how to do it, as far as I remember in the Downloads section of the forum there is an eLearn module (a sort of FIAT workshop manual):

The file has been divided into 5 parts. It will work only on a windows computer.

You have to download it, unpack it (using for example WinRar, WinZip, 7zip) to get a single file. Probably you'll get another archive (.rar), unpack it once again to get an .iso file (which is the CD image of the eLearn).

The .iso file has to be mounted into a virtual CD drive (I'm using UltraISO), then the eLearn has to be installed on the PC. Once installed, you could use it as a standard program (application) installed on your PC. But the .iso file needs to be mounted into the virtual CD drive everytime you want to launch it.

Looking at the diagram above the same system is installed in my x250. I had to dismantle it to clean the wear sensor. Having never done it before (only drums or discs), it took me 6 hours from start to finish on the 1st wheel and only like 2 hours on the other one the next day. Be sure to clean the wear sensor, unless you want to repeat the operation in a couple of days :D

Someone changed the shoes and pads just before I've bought the van, but the warning light was still on, so had to do it myself.

Let's see what @Communicator will add to the thread, he knows better the x244 model ;)

Try this link to an online version of eLearn, in which I have selected the appropriate page.

This online version of Fiat eLearn has some of the longer descriptions cropped, also some of the electrical diagrams are unreadable. A complete version is available is available in the "Downloads" section, for which see black banner at top of page. eLearn runs on a Windows computer.
