Newbie here,

I have recently acquired a 2002 year Punto Active and have noticed the inside of the headlamp covers keep misting up. It mists up over night in the cold and clears a bit during the day but never completely. Has anyone else experienced this with the new clear type headlamps ?

The car is under warranty and is going in tomorrow to the dealer but I just wondered if this really is a fault. I think I read somewhere that the backplate needs to be replaced. Any comments appreciated.

I got my 2000 Elx at 9 months old and it did the misting thing for about a month to 6 weeks. Then it cleared up. I reckoned it was due to it sitting over winter on a forecourt with the ocasional test drive and wash for company. A lot of clear lensed lights can suffer from misting, something to do with the difficulty in sealing the back of the unit 100%. It's likely the dealer wont find anything amiss and wont replace it. If that's the case I'd suggest getting them to write down and sign that if in 3 months it hasn't cleared naturally they will replace it free of charge...

Sorry I can't help with your other questions - I have the tape unit with a CD changer, and my wipers are fine...

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Here's an update. The Fiat dealer said they have been having some problems with misting headlamps and have fitted new design rear headlamp covers with different breather vents under warranty. It now seems to have been cured. The CD Player has been sent back to Blaupunkt to be fixed under warranty. I gave the wipers and windscreen a good thorough clean and now the screen clears ok.

I'm happy again.

I have that problem with my 2002 active sport, after kicking up a stink with our local dealer they replaced it several times, apparently they have a modification to the light cluster they can carry out, but lately i have hade no problems, annoying though aint it

I've had the same problem too. The dealer did something they said would fix it but it hasn't made much difference. I haven't followed it up as I am trading the car in but it does seem to be a commonplace problem.

I have a 2001 Punto (basic model) and have the headlight misting problem as well...recently it cleared up on it's own...my worry is that it will come back...anyone have a similar situation?

My dealer did not seem to be interested in fixing it....got the standard response..."design flaw-can't fix-it"

Take care all

tell them they will fix it or you will go further, fiat dealers and there support teams are Sh*t. You payed for that car and you expect it to be sorted, i had the exact same problem, and they can ix it, even if they change the whole cluster like they did for me, dont take no crap of them mate, good luck! let us know how you got on

to be honest guys, i am a bit sleepy, i just misread the topic - i thought it said

'2002 Punto headlamp missing'

which would be really serious!!

the misting can be solved if you remove the headlight unit, put it in a really warm room/place over night and in the morning put some silicone sealant round the seal just to make sure the seal is 100% - should solve the problem - oh and remeber to put the headlight back on afterwards - otherwise you'd have a missing headlight;)
