Hello fellow Fiat Spider 2000 enthusiasts! 1981 Spider 2000 engine won't turn of when key is turned off. I can even pull the key out and it's still running. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ––Mike H

Wire on back of ignition switch on wrong terminal or another live wire in contact with coil wire.
Or even fuse fitted wrong across two fuse holders, I have seen that
If it happened in use then a low quality ignition switch can do it also. There are a lot of Russian ignition switches on the market these days supplied for Fiats. When working on brand new Ladas (Fiat 124 under license) we had them fail on brand new cars whilst still in showroom!!!;)

Thank you!! Appreciate any advice. I've read about these Russian ignition switches. Maybe that's the cause. My auto mechanic retired over the winter so I'm kind of on my own as I haven't found anyplace that service classic Spiders yet. Am looking. Maybe I'll fool around with it myself. Thanks again. ––Mike H

Make sure you disconnect the battery before working on the ignition switch, if it is the same type they are only held in with a circlip but it is easy for the clip to short the terminals when prizing it out of it's groove.
The main problem we had was as when it went to the start position there is no relay so the starter solenoid amperage load used to melt the plastic cam that makes the connection in the switch, so the contacts start to burn as not a positive connection.
Like your mechanic I am retired, I suspect it is gradually getting harder to find young mechanics familiar with older vehicles where the computer is not there to tell them what is wrong.;)

check your grounds and clean them!!! I always do this with any problem I have thats remotely electrical. (most of the problems I've had with it since I got it about 6 months ago lol) May not be of any help but I think its a good practice.
