Dunno about chips, but a lot of people did a remap of their JTDs at Angel Tuning - a link can be found in the club->discounts section of the site.

but remaping is more expensive and this commander looks cheaper and easier to fot, if advantages are same, i think it might be better option.

Maybe there is someone who tried it or heard from friends? ;)

ive heard bad things about all these tuning boxes, all they do is let in more fuel to which u go faster. If anythin, you have more chance of your engine going boom

thats just my opinion anyway :)

A Fiat Marea in a Bravo Shell..Its good to be different ;)
Now with Working Steering Wheel Controls :)

Well i agree that engine might go boom quicker, but all those commanders saying, that it takes even less fuel...

god knows then lol

suppose only way would be for you to buy one and try for yourself

I used a Drake tuning box on my 2.4 JTD and it was very good! The proper boxes don't use more fuel, they just make sure that all the available fuel is actually used, rather than just disappearing out the exhaust in a cloud of smoke! My MPG suffered very slightly, but that was probably due to me exploiting the extra power.
Unfortunately, after a couple of months the box started playing up and Drake tuning ignored all my attempts to get the box replaced. I would suggest that you go for a UK supplier, if you plan on taking this route. I am now running a remapped chip in mine :O)

Do not install that cheap piece of crap on your engine. Look at the ad, its plugged into the Rail pressure sensor, all it does is supplies false parameters to the ECU, which in turn tells the injectors more fuel.
Get your car properly remapped.

But remmaping is very expensive...
When your box started to ignore you, it ****** your ecu as well, you couldnt disconnect it and run on original?

Ned it's a bit more complicated than that! I agree with Ed that re-mapping is way overpriced, especially when you consider that all they do is install a new set of parameters, regardless of your engines age, condition etc!! They don't even put the car on the rolling road to check everything is ok afterwards. With that in mind it's not any different to a tuning box (as long as you get one from a reputable supplier). I had a long chat with one of the main blokes at Angel Tuning and decided that it wasn't worth handing over almost £300 for. Plus you can unplug the box at any time.

Well yes, it sounds stupid to pay soo much money, just for pluging laptop, have a go, if you like it, we wont delete it :D

Right then. I have a tuning box available from my FIAT Bravo 100 HLX JTD 1.9 8v.
Its from these bods:

As you can see the original price is quite high but this box is adjustable according to your needs. You cannot do a live change but it is pretty easy. Installation takes about 15 mins including finding a place to sit the box.
Its about 4 months old and in perfect working order.
Includes leads, box and instructions.
£95 ono - Free postage to UK addresses.

You pays your money and takes your chances. Buy cheap buy twice, in this case a replacement engine. Angel Tuning and Red Dot are the only ones worth bothering with. As for rolling roads you should do this prior and post remap. It has nothing to do with the engine tune itself but is another service you should purchase to assess the map/re-tune.

Angel Tuning and Red Dot have been doing Fiat remaps for quite a few years and maybe know what they are doing. £300 for increasing power and torque by a genuine 25-30% is cheap as chips in the world of engine tuning. You will need an uprated clutch as the STD one won't cope especially if it has done a high mileage.

You have been warned!

Pete.

Had our golf done by TCS Perfromance, Unit 2, Duck end, Birchanger, Bishop's Storford. CM23 5QS

£250 for a Rolling Road before, Custom remap, Rolling Road after, Tweeks to remap - spin up the road and drive about - Back on the rollers for any more changes.

Was there for a good 3hrs as they had never done a DSG golf before.

Plus the chap who did the remapping, is the guy who does all the remaps and sells them on.

So anyone with a DSG 2.0l TDi who gets a generic remap, will prob get my remap now.

The workshop isn't pretty, but Tom is a great bloke and I was over the moon with the results! Esp with have a rolling road to show just what was going on.
