Technical 1.6mj brakes

Hi folks
Set about doing the front discs and pads yesterday, but see that the caliper carrier bolts have a torx head? Looks like an E17 (E16 feels too small, and E18 not a snug fit)? Don't have an E17 of course and can't see one for sale anywhere. Anyone able to confirm the size, please?

E17 dosnt exist
So it will be 16 or 18
Probably 16 as these e torx socket's sit proud of the bolt when they fit correctly unlike normal bolts that fit flush

Brilliant, thanks buddy. I'm sure that Fiat had a good reason for using these, but now that they're 10 years old, pretty rusty and pretty solidly stuck, think I would have preferred a good old fashioned big hex head....

E torx bolts are supposed to be designed so that they can take more torque before they start slipping so should be superior to old fashioned hex

Heat and lots of penetrating spray especially if you can get some on the back side of the bolt between the disc and hub as the securing bolts often stick out a small amount so should be able to get some oil into the threads there


Just watch our fo the CV joint rubber with the heat

Aye, I wasn't keen on the heat thing what with proximity to the cv, plus my heat is an aerosol blow lamp so not that hot and not that precise.....

A sheet of metal makes a good heat shield

Impact gun would be a good way to get then off if anybody you know has one
