Hi I'm new here and wondering if any one can help.

My GP 1.3 mjet is lacking power. It's been intermittent for some time but is less reluctant to clear mow. I always thought it was a fuel problem as it used to do it only if I filled up at certain petrol/diesel stations? Often when driving it also feels like it's struggling to get air in (not bunny hop but like a gulping?). Consequently it's limping and no power with foot on pedal.

I have read other people with similar problems so as was due a service took to a fiat garage hoping that they could fix.

Tha diagnosis is that I need a new turbo. Now I have no problem with this if they can guarantee that is the issue. However as this seems to be a recurring issue with these mjets I want to be certain? Is there anyway to be certain this is the issue? As a turbo fault does not persee show up on the test but it showed up as an air intake system error.

I have read various things on fir but not sure what to do. A turbo is a lot of pennies.

Thanks for any help.

Ok more info

they have told me reason for prob is actuator not working which was checked in vacuum test

I asked about wategate he tells me it is seized and as it is part of turbo needs replacing

does anyone know where I can take it for the prod and lube with WD40

I have also been told that mew turbo is 870 squids

i replaced the actuator on my t-jet its not very difficult just 2 bolts and a circlip, i doubt very much the gate itself is siezed it will be the actuator. I dont know how the diesel is set up but on mine the actuator sits ontop of the turbo and is easy to swap. Once the actuator was off the arm which is attached to the wastegate was easily accessable

As said actuator is stupidly easy to change, I recently did a full turbo swap on my tjet took me 3 hours and I picked up a fully recond vl36 turbo for 160 quid so I'd shop around if I were you lol

hhmm as i am no mechanic is the t-jet same as m-jet in terms of this?
apologies for probabl stupid question and the fact that I owuldn't even know where to begin?

in principle all turbo's work the same and as it is not a specialist part needing fitting tools it is a simple remember how it comes off and thats how it goes back on jobbie :)

hello

thanks for any advice so far

does anyone know whether there is a mechanic in my area so that I can rule out whether this is a stuck wastegate? that can be easily cleared without having to resort to the cost of this turbo?

the car was running ok after I collected it from sevice and seemed to be wanting the rubo to kick if a little inconsistent drove it a few times no issues, motorways/dual etc

however next day get back in and after 5 mins engine light back on and not happy...although a further trip the turbo was def kicking in at places

so please if anyone know a decent mechanic that hasa fixed their related problems with this darn thing i would be grateful (no job at mo so have time to drive:))

thank u
